Never again in this hotel. We knew that Novotel are very average hotels but this one turned out to be a big disaster for us visiting Rio de Janeiro all the way from India. Talking about the location first, this hotel is situated on Barra beach miles away from every tourist attraction of Rio. There is no restaurant or a decent eatery anywhere less than 3Km distance from the hotel. This is quite important as the restaurant in the hotel is almost non-existent. Talking about the hotel, it is below par in every sense of this world. Very ordinary rooms, no water or tea/coffee in the room. How can you you have no water served in the room in such warm weather. The staff are like robots making no eye contact with you ever. The breakfast is awful with no live counter for eggs and horrible coffee machine. Not worth opting for even for free. Wi-Fi sucks. The gym and swimming pool are a joke. All the available space has been conveyed into 230 rooms. Please stay away from this hotel.

If you visiting Rio for sightseeing, this hotel is a bad choice. We have booked it for 7 nights and regretting it. It is far far away from Any train station or sightseeing area. Even nearest restaurant is 2 kms away. We are taking Uber for everywhere and it costs both time and money. Copacabana is 50 minutes away by UBER They don’t provide as single bottle of drinking water in this sizzling heat. We had to go to a super market 3 kms away to fetch water, fruit etc as nearest grocery store is a rip off. It charges us 3 times more than the supermarket price. Breakfast is average. You don’t get fresh fried or boiled eggs or Omelettes which most hotels of this class provide. Compared to no of guests they have assigned very small area for buffet breakfast. You have to be careful not to bump into each other. Ready made omelette is with ham which we don’t eat. Scrambled eggs are liquidy and badly cooked. So we have not been eating eggs in the breakfast for 2 days. Fruit range is limited. There are no green juices. No seeds or nuts. Staff is like robots and make no eye contact with the guests. We are missing the warmth and hospitality our Asian region ( India, Thailand, Vietnam, Bali ). Rooms are ok. There is gym but no steam sauna. This another downer for this hotel. Location is terrible form the tourist point of view.

Upon arrival front desk advised my room was ready, BUT, I needed to pay a fee! Never heard that before in my life … o double checked: room available, right? Answer was yes, BUT a fee was needed to acces it since it was almost noon and check in is 2.

I had quite high expectations as a European I know Novotel as a great hotel brand. But a check-in that takes about 20 minutes for every guest/couple is unacceptable. We arrived with three couples and it took an hour, also people waiting behind us. I also excuse the poor receptionist who had no help but was obviously not adequately taught how a check in works. Also, we arrived around 8pm and the bar is already closed as is the pool. And the room is old, things are broken and the bathroom is not very well cleaned. I worked in hotels myself and I know that quality looks different. Sorry for this rating, it is my first bad one on TripAdvisor.

The hotel stands in a nice place in Barra da Tijuca with a beautiful beach across. The swimming pool on the roof is ok, the view is outstanding. But the service is terrible. The hotel reception staff is very friendly and welcoming. Other then that the bar staff treat you as a burden, there are but a few drink options and it is not comfortable. DO NOT rely on parking staff, we waited for someone to grab our car for 20minutes but no one showed up and we had to pick a cab
