Pragmatic apartment in Mercure hotel 1block from Boa Viagem Beach.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights, arriving at 8PM by Uber(15 Br) from REC Airport. The English speaking receptionist copied our passports, presented our key cards and we took one of the 2 elevators to the 11th floor. Room #1104 was tiled and clean, opening to a granite counter kitchen(good selection of pot/pans/dishes/utensils) and table, double day bed across a small TV(AMC, Bloomberg, This Old House, Motorvision, Newsmax, PBS, Speedvision, Time & USA in English) with 50+ Portuguese channels. Perfect AC over the window wall with a city view. Cold water sink outside a tight bathroom with a nice 1 m square hot “rain head” tile shower but no soap/shampoo. No housekeeping and uncommunicative owner. Bedroom with comfortable double and AC(did not use) over opening window wall. Many outlets and good lighting but the listed clothes washer/dryer is absent. Food options are excellent with Mercure’s 7AM breakfast buffet on floor P2 for 55Br each, the entry level’s popular 6:30AM Diplomatic Deli-cafe-bakery and a 7AM-10PM Carrefour Hipermercado 3 blocks NW. I saw Mercures small pool and used their nice 5 station gym. We walked the promenade of the long wide Boa Viagem Beach with its score of beach volleyball courts, kiosk cafes, restrooms, bike lanes and a very heavy surf. Overall, a practical apartment-hotel with older rooms, offering good value.

The hotel was old, stinky and dirty. The amenities were really low quality and the towels and linens not good! There were ants on my desk while I was trying to work)... they had just one person at the front desk when I was trying to check out.

My opinion is it does not! I had some issues such as, old toels, bathroom linking and very dark and dirty look, air conditioner out of order and apparently its filter hasn't been cleaned for ages. I'm allergic and got sick because of it. The property has an excelent location but a renovation is urgently needed! The cafeteria is extremely poor and looks dirty. I'll never get back and I'll let all my friends and social media friends know to avoid this hotel.

This is a very old unit of a Mercure hotel. Good location near the beach and close to the airport, with a staff that tries hard to deliver an Accor standard despite the conditions. The building is horrible and not suited for a hotel. Rooms are apartment style, large and clean, though, but they require an urgent update. Breakfast offers good food, in line with the chain standard, but the restaurant is very bad. I believe there is a much newer Mercure in Recife, so next time I will go straight to that one.
