Coeliac's not catered for

I am Coeliac and have stayed at this Hotel every year, near enough, for the past 30 years. The availability for gf food has decreased, whilst worldwide the understanding of the devastating consequences of being " glutened" has risen and hotel chains now provide for their clients. Thanks to a wonderfully helpful and kind staff member, Loubna, I managed to get something to eat. Thank you Loubna. Most hotel chains now offer Schar foods in packaging; thereby ensuring there is both quality and most essentially non contaminated gf fayre. There was NOTHING at this hotel to eat. In past years there was at least a wide selection of fruit , boiled eggs , pots of yogurt and the like. This year NOTHING. If Loubna had not searched in the kitchens - where she found butter and jam ( I had my own biscuits ) I would have had no food ( Although this does not a 4* breakfast make). We return to Dijon in August and Loubna has suggested that we notify hotel in advance. I will try once more. And I will have my 2 metre tall, 90kg rower son with me, also coeliac. Hopefully Novotel will recognise the need to treat their customers with Coeliac Disease on a par with everyone else. Disappointed loyal customer Heidi

We fully understand the seriousness of Coeliac disease, and it is clear that we did not meet the standard you — quite rightly — expect from an international hotel chain, especially as a returning guest. Your feedback has been shared with our food & beverage team, and we are actively reviewing how we can better cater to gluten-free dietary requirements going forward. The suggestion to include packaged, certified gluten-free options such as Schär is a valuable one, and we will explore this further. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us directly ahead of your stay in August so we can ensure your son and yourself are properly looked after. Awful experience

We stayed here twice during a recent trip in April — once on the way out and again on the return — and unfortunately, both stays were among the least comfortable hotel experiences we've had. The biggest issue was the air conditioning: it only functions as heating unless the outside temperature exceeds 26°C, regardless of how warm it gets inside the room. As a result, both rooms were hot and stuffy, making it very difficult to sleep — especially for the kids, who were uncomfortable and upset. It felt more like the middle of summer than spring, we had to try and sleep on top of the bedlinen. We did try asking at the front desk, apparently nothing could be done. In hindsight, we should have just slept in the car/somewhere else

Terrible. Disorganised. Rooms not clean, huge dust under beds. Bath and shower leaked everywhere. Shower gel didnt work but smelt awful anyway. Rooms humid and foam mattresses make you sweat. Easily worst of the 10 or so Novotels I've stayed in.

Pretty decent stay but the hotel was overwhelmed on a peak Saturday

First Saturday of the year meant the hotel was crammed. Great to get an upgrade (thanks to Accor membership) but the ground floor rooms don't have much soundproofing. Kids running around upstairs until midnight, and a dog across the corridor whining and barking from all evening and again from 7am. Talking about dogs, it's disappointing that they are allowed in the dining room, especially when they kick off with other dogs in the bar. I know it's down to the owners, but it negatively impacts others staying at the hotel. Dinner was lovely, but the waiting staff/kitchen were overwhelmed. Our table was booked for 8pm and we finally finished at 10:20pm. Given the chaos the evening before, we went to breakfast early which was a great decision. The usual high quality Novotel buffet selections

Humid and hot in the rooms, but you’re literally trapped in the heat, because air-conditioning doesn’t work in any of the rooms, and you can not open the windows, as most of the rooms are groundfloor-level, so people are passing by right outside your window. The rooms are shabby and outdated, mold and stains in the bathroom, the bathroom mirror broken, and there is no elevator to the rooms: You have to carry all your luggage up and down the stairs. And one very embarrassing detail: In the bathtooms you will find RITUAL dispensers with soap and shower gel, but - as so many other guests have stated - there is no rituals inside, but cheap supermarket shower gel - with that typical slightly disgusting hospital-smell. Reception is ok and friendly, lobby somewhat pleasant, therefore the 2nd star.
