Decent hotel - disappointed didn't get rooms we ordered

We paid extra for two Mountain View rooms for a 10-day stay, but were given two Parking Lot view rooms instead. The manager insisted we had been upgraded to a “partial beach view,” though there was no beach visible at all. After reading several recent reviews, it appears other guests have experienced similar downgrades. The hotel itself is nice. However, the check-in clerks were not very friendly, while other staff members were pleasant. Housekeeping was lacking—there was mold in the shower (with no vent), a dirty faucet, and carpets that clearly needed cleaning. One pillowcase even had a hole, and the pillows were very small. Be cautious when booking through third-party sites. You may not receive the room you paid for.

Good location, disappointing service

The location is convenient, though it’s about a 30-minute walk (or 10-minute drive) to Waikiki city centre. It’s very close to Ala Moana Shopping Centre (5 minutes) and Ala Moana Park (10 minutes), which has a lovely bay beach. There are a few shops within the hotel, including a Starbucks, which was a plus. The hotel also offers guest activities such as lei making, hula dancing and ukulele lessons, which were a nice touch. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. Aside from the security guard, no one acknowledged us on arrival. Valet staff were unhelpful when asked questions, and reception staff were similarly disengaged. On multiple occasions, several staff were at reception appearing idle while guests waited in line — staff presence did not translate into service. Housekeeping communication was inconsistent. Reception advised no softer pillows were available, yet housekeeping was able to provide one. We also had to repeatedly request extra towels. Despite staff being aware we were late sleepers, there was a knock on our door around 9am every morning to service the room. The pool area is small and uninviting. Please consider retraining staff in good hospitality service. While Hawaii has a relaxed atmosphere, a professional, caring and friendly attitude toward guests is always welcome. Putting yourselves in travellers’ shoes would go a long way toward improving the overall experience.

I love staying here! The front desk is always warm and friendly, sometimes funny too! I got in rather late, but Mark was cheerful and helped me. I did ask if there was a room far away from the elevators, like I've stayed in before, but I was given a high floor and a room with only one guest next to me. I like when that happens. I really like the refurbishing of the hallways. They are so much brighter! I also like what they did with the interiors. There were a few things I thought were issues. The dresser is nice, with deep drawers, but there's only two. It looks like there could've been four. The in-room safe wouldn't fit my laptop and the battery was low. One cosmetic thing I saw was the door jam. The paint must not have been dry when they shut the door. With the nice changes, this just didn't look right. Other than those things, the self-parking is great! There isn't really a view, but it was much quieter facing the back. I like how close it is to the mall. I didn't feel like going out to eat, so I just went to the mall and ate at the Foodland that has two spots to get food. Again, the staff is great! I will always consider staying here when I'm out again!

Really nice. It was clean and felt safe. The beds and pillows were comfortable and so cool that they have a shopping center in there and restaurant on top. I would stay here again.

Expensive parking and thin walls

The parking was extremely expensive at $40 per night. There is also a resort fee to pay. We stayed in the Kona Tower and the doors for the rooms were extremely loud whenever they shut. The windows did not seal well to keep out noise from outside. Honestly I would not stay here again due to the noise issue and the high parking fee.
