The Mercure Penang Beach is a great location if you don't want the crowds of George Town or Batu Ferringhi. Great location with a drinks/food deck overlooking the beach and pool area. Cannot fault the staff, extremely helpful. Great value for a relaxed getaway.

We recently reached out to several hotels along Tanjong Bungah and Batu Ferringhi to arrange a meaningful memorial service for my mum on All Souls Day (2nd Nov), with a view of the sea. We ultimately chose the Mercure Hotel at Tanjong Bungah for this special occasion, based on the exceptional correspondence from Ms. Joan, the Director of Sales, and our recommender, Ms. Vivien, as we were unable to make a site visit from Singapore. Having worked in the hotel industry myself, I understand the effort that goes into event planning. Ms. Joan was incredibly knowledgeable, confident, and responsive to all my requests, giving us reassurance about our choice. On the day of the event, everything was executed flawlessly, and even the chef checked in to ensure the food met our expectations. Unfortunately, there was a power outage due to a main grid issue, as we were informed. Rather than focusing on this unexpected fault—which I believe was beyond the hotel’s control—we chose to look at the overall experience, which was positive throughout. The team’s response was swift and professional, with Ms. Joan and event coordinator Timothy following up promptly. Their attention to detail and care for our event’s success were truly commendable. The food was excellent, and even the Datos in attendance remarked positively on the arrangements. This memorial service was deeply significant for my family and me, and although the blackout was an unforeseen setback, the overall experience exceeded our expectations. Memorial events are about creating a lifetime of memories in a single day, and thanks to Ms. Joan, Ms. Vivien, Mr. Timothy, and the General Manager for his team, we were able to honor my mum in the most memorable way. This is generally a good hotel. Be aware that road noise can be very loud if you book a city view room. The connecting doors are also very thin, so you may hear the next door conversations and TV. The staff are very helpful but sometimes it appeared they said 'yes' to a request but then didn't make a note of it, so you wound up going through the whole thing again. There was a wide variety of choices for breakfast but they don't cater well for western tastes (not a complaint, just advising). We found the location practical for the things we wanted to do. The pool area is very family friendly and there is a decent gym.

Took more than 30mins to check in although I had 5 rooms booked. Yet I have emailed prior my stay that some rooms should have extra bed and baby cot, connecting rooms and same floor. Yet none of the request processed although my request was acknowledged. Out of 5 rooms booked 2 rooms were not ready still at 3pm. Got access to all rooms close to 4pm. Can’t remember facing such incident in the last 40-50 countries that I travelled to. Upon checking in to the room, each rooms seems to be missing something I.e floor mats, tissue replacements, towels etc. Next morning, went out at around 9am, left the sign to service room but when I’m back at 5pm, no one came to clean the room. Seems like the whole operation team failed and all the staff needs re-training.

4th floor room on roadside as I refused to pay U/G M$80 (reduced to M$60) as it was night time when I checked in. The noise of racing mororbikes was such that I was constantly awakened and had 4h sleep only. Supper at coffee shop, worst meal i ever had. BTW I live in BKK and am used to local food.
