We enjoyed our stay at Sofitel Baru. The staff was very helpful, attentive, and welcoming. The adult only pool was great as we were able to relax while enjoying the sun. The food was good as were the cocktails. The Humo restaurant was delicious and had some unique cocktails not available at the other restaurants. We would definitely come back.

This is a resort is on another level, the hospitality is incredible. My wife and I came here for our honeymoon and wow. The rooms, pools & restaurants are fantastic. It’s a resort where it’s impossible to find problems. Thank you to all the people who took care of us.

Amazing service and place to stay! Make to grab lunch or dinner at Bahia. Diego will be sure to take care of you! Humo is a great spot for Asian fusion style cuisine. Be sure to check this place out and enjoy the views with Cartagena in the distance!

The massage therapist, Karen, at the Sofitel Baru spa was provided an outstanding sports massage. I only get a massage once a year so when I do, I hope to have a skilled therapist. Karen was the most skilled massage therapist I’ve had in 20 years. The Spa is wonderful and the receptionist very friendly and good. We are thoroughly enjoying our experience at Sofitel Baru. All of the people here are professional, friendly and gracious. Beautiful hotel, beach, pools and delicious food.

Not for those wanting a mix of city and beach time

This hotel is great if you're looking for a mostly beach-bound vacation with limited versatility in your dining options. It is a less expensive option for Cartagena visitors for a reason: every trip into the city by boat will cost you ~$100, and if you want to stay there for dinner/bars, you have to return by car (as the boats stop running early evening) which is an even more expensive trip, and an hour and change on bumpy roads. This added about $500 to our short stay. This would be ok if the food at Baru was consistently great. Their restaurant Bahia is delicious; inventive food with appreciable variety. However, the breakfast food at Calablanca is bland and the service lackluster. Every time I ate there I had to flag down waiters for each phase of the order, and the orders always came with unexplained modifications or one item slightly off (for instance, an order of eggs and sliced avocado on toast came with a mound of insipid guacamole piled on the toast and very dry eggs). When we did go into the city, we had above-and-beyond help from Farid, who ensured that we had our bearings and were set with a car, directions, and recommendations; he also spent much of one boat ride coordinating a city tour for us and navigating many last minute changes. The premises are well-designed and attractive, if a bit sterile. The staff is very nice but sometimes the service was lacking in ways you might not expect for a multi starred hotel; on our departure day, local construction almost doubled our airport commute, yet no one from the hotel let us know to anticipate that (the construction had apparently been scheduled for some time). Afterward, when trying to settle something on my bill, I had several different departments (Finance, Hotel Services) hang up the phone in my face several times until I finally got someone in Reservations to talk to me, but she couldn't help, and so the only way to communicate was via an email that didn't get a response til more than a week later.
