An Awful Experience at a 5* Fairmont

This trip was such an awful debacle. When we arrived we waited over 40 minutes to Valet our car as we were unaware about there being a Debutante Winter Ball, and hundreds of kiddos visiting the Teddy Bear Suite. After waiting another 30 minuted to check in our room stunk of cigarette smoke. I noticed the window was open. I saw the maid and mentioned it to her. She said she also noticed it and thats why she opened the window, it was 40 degrees outside. Attempting to get back to check in, I waited nearly 10 minutes for an elevator, then I used the stairs every time I had to go up to 7 or down to lobby. I refused to wait in that line again, . I found an employee who was able to move us to a nice NON STINK room. Then we went OUT to dinner. My husband checked to make sure car was on EV charger. It was not, but we were assured it would be. Next morning after breakfast OUT I attempted to get to the spa/workout facility. Foiled again by seriously hundreds of children and their families blocking the 2nd floor elevators and the entry to the spa. Next day I had the good fortune of a young woman at the front desk when I went to checkout. She enquired about our stay, I told her only the bare minimum and she was so disappointed at our experience she waived the parking fee. I was told there were no additional charges. Went to car and it had only been on the charger for a few minutes. It was advertised they had super chargers, we were not very charged. Then I was notified on my credit card that I had a $150+ charge. I booked this hotel with my Chase points. Wasn’t expecting any charge. After calling, writing, messaging etc I finally was able to get a hold of someone. I was told the charges were for in room dining. We did not eat in our room or anywhere in the hotel. I have receipts from the restaurants we did eat at. So now I’ve spent nearly 2 hours plus extreme frustration dealing with this hotel. I must say, I usually love Fairmont Hotels, but this was a POOR experience.

Stayed at the Fairmont Olympic over Christmas with my family and had a wonderful experience. The holiday decorations and ambiance were exceptional, the Christmas dinner and breakfast were delicious, and drinks in the Founders Lounge were excellent. Service was fantastic throughout, and the Teddy Bear Suite was a unique and memorable touch. I also loved the sauna, hot tub and gym. Hotel location is perfect for a morning waterfront run. An outstanding place to stay during the holidays. Special thank you to Pauline Suryana who gave us great recommendations and is a wonderful ambassador of Seattle and the Fairmont Olympic Hotel.

I tried to contact The George restaurant to buy drinks for fellow guests and continuously got caught in voicemail h—l. No one at the switchboard could help. I spent 20 minutes trying to get through to no avail. Not what I’d expect from a so called 5 star hotel.
