Title: Extremely Poor Service and Misleading Refund Communication

We stayed at Mercure Haydock Park on 19–20 November 2025. After a very disappointing meal and grubby stay. we met with the General Manager the next morning. He was fair and agreed to issue a partial refund. Sadly, everything that came afterwards was unacceptable. Despite being told the refund would take 3–5 working days, the hotel did not process it for 8 days. During this time, my calls went unanswered and emails were ignored. When I finally received a reply, I was advised to “check with your bank” — yet it later became clear that the hotel had not processed the refund at all until a week after it was promised. Communication from the hotel and even Accor’s own customer care team was cold, dismissive, and lacked any empathy. I repeatedly had to chase for basic information, and the experience caused unnecessary stress and frustration. A real shame, because the conversation with the GM on the day was positive — but the follow-up service fell far below acceptable standards. This hotel has severe staffing issues and a dated hotel . Not clean the cobwebs in our suite were shocking .

We had a fantastic experience in the meeting room yesterday. Stephanie and the team did an exceptional job of looking after us from start to finish. The food and refreshments were great, and the space itself was spotless and comfortable. The presentation equipment was also extremely easy to use, which made the day run smoothly. I’d highly recommend this venue and look forward to booking again.

Daughters wedding

Our Daughters wedding was held at the mercure hotel Haydock, we went to book into our room and we were told there was no record of our booking our daughter assured us that the booking was made at the same time she booked her wedding we asked were there any more rooms available the girl on reception eventually found us room 204 there was not a lot of light in the room due to the fact that one of the lightbulb needed changing, the room was very cold but I assumed that the heating would come on later on? no such luck the air con was on all night, the staff must have known about the heating as there was a fan heater in the room, my niece stayed in the hotel for the wedding she said she had the same problem with the heating and when she got up in the morning there was water dripping from the ceiling she informed reception when she checked out. I haven't told our daughter as it would have ruined her wedding knowing that her parents were that cold they couldn't sleep

Freezing cold rooms and terrible service

Having stayed at this hotel previously, I didn’t have high expectations, however I’d not experienced any real issues before. Until now. On arrival we checked into our rooms and I cannot even begin to tell you how cold they were. It appeared there was no heating whatsoever, and the thermostat just displayed a maintenance ‘spanner’. I went to reception expecting them to offer to have someone come and look at the issue, or perhaps offer to change the room, however I was shocked when the receptionist conceded there was an issue and that ‘some rooms had no heating’! I’ve never been so shocked that a hotel feel it’s acceptable to put people in rooms that are freezing cold. I’m not being over dramatic here, I literally had to sleep in my coat. The only solution they could offer was a plug in fan heater, which did nothing to improve the situation. This wasn’t isolated to one room either, three other people in our group had the same situation. Absolutely shocking. We were visiting for a work event, which was equally poor. Chaotic food and coffee service, only one machine working for 150 guests. We did complain to a manager the following day, who didn’t deny the issues but equally did nothing to reassure us that anything would be sorted. Shocking service, I would definitely avoid here if you want a comfortable stay.

Had afternoon tea yesterday, it was lovely! Got so much food had to take some home. Vivienne who was dealing was us was fabulous, she went truly above and beyond. Unlimited tea and coffee for the full time we was there and was so fast bringing it to you.
