From the moment I arrived to the moment I left everything about this hotel and all the staff was exceptional. I ordered room served and compliments to the chef for the best steak I’ve had in a long time 🫶 The bed was so comfortable and huge for my sole self at a mere 5’2” and I had the best night sleep! I look forward to making this a regular stop over when I visit my daughter at Uni. Currently trying to plan the next trip! Thank you to all the staff that made my stay absolutely amazing 🫶

Arrived at room both windows were open to find one windows covered with flies inside. We had to close the window net & curtain hoping they would find their way out. Whilst resting on the bed before dinner the flies became annoying around us. I reported this to reception & told it would be sorted whilst we have dinner. Dinner: After reading the menus on website, was different to what we were offered. More like pub grub than I expected. We choose bread & olives as an appetiser. The bread was park cooked type from a supermarket, only served without finished cooking. We couldn’t eat it. Ok. They took that off the bill. My steak £28 was the most expensive choice on menue. It wasn’t cooked as I asked & to be honest, it didn’t look as though it had been griddle cooked, but on a hot plate with burgers. After dinner drinks were in the conservatory. After waiting a while, as checked with a guest if I was at the correct place to get a drink. I was assured that someone would eventually be there. Well we managed to get two drinks in 90 minutes. Ok there was a wedding function, but surely they should plan ahead with additional staff? We headed back to our room (sober) only to find the dreaded flies still there. We turned the lights off hoping they would sleep in the dark. During the night, I being 64 needed to go to the toilet. Now it’s a very old building, and floorboards do creek, but as soon as I stepped out of bed, a dog in the room below us started whimpering. This continued for a long while, which I assume woke the owners, and they then needed the toilet. OMG the toilet flushing sounded like an express train going through a tunnel. Twice in concession. The hotel is dog friendly & we love animals, but they should keep all animals in the annex.. then at daylight the flies started buzzing again, so we only managed a few hours sleep. I would say you need to get drunk to sleep, but that will be difficult. Breakfast was served 07:30 - 10:00am. We arrived 09:00 with very little traditional breakfast left, but what I had was nice. My wife likes porridge, but all gone, and no fresh produce replenished. Other guests arriving after us were shaking their heads. Very dissatisfied with our stay, but the hotel looks impressive in its grounds, but will not be retuning

Would certainly stay again!

Hotel was excellent even though the floors were a bit creaky upstairs. We stayed 3 nights at a family wedding. My only criticism is the breakfast, and yes I've read the other reviews here - perhaps we were unlucky. The first morning the food had been under the heat lamps for far too long, the eggs were solid like rubber, the bacon was so dry it was inedible, and the mushrooms and black pudding were dried up. The second morning breakfasts were cooked to order and were perfect. The 3rd morning the eggs were back under the heat lamps and were solid again, though the bacon was fine. [before anybody whinges - I am a retired chef of over 40 years experience!] I also received a cheeky slightly sarcastic comment from one young member of staff but as I suppose I really asked for it by pinching a second complimentary drink I just smiled!

We'll definitely return.

Beautiful grounds, really comfortable bed, nice room and great breakfast - what more could we want? If I'm being niggly (and these really are minor niggles as everything was great)...I'd have liked tea and coffee served to the table at breakfast. I don't like fixed shower heads. Our view was ok but a bit bland - I think we were tucked away at the back of the hotel which makes sense as there was a wedding on, but I'd have liked a view of the grounds but certainly nothing to complain about. Some great features - for example board games you can use while staying. Probably slightly better than we expected for the money paid.

Dog friendly hotel with a great view and a lot of space for your friend to run on the grass. The structure is cleaned and tidy; bathroom as well for a facility like this one. Staff told us the breakfast could be booked the night before at reception, then they told us anytime. In the room we found the menu to hang to the door the day before, starting from 7. We ordered and breakfast arrived at 7:45 because the kitchen didn't open before 7:30. They also forgot some cereal and honey. They might need to review their leaflets.
