We were very impressed with this hotel. It was rather overwhelming as there were so many things to appreciate from the decor, flower arrangements, light fittings etc. We wandered around the corridors looking at all the photographs of previous guests. This is a quality hotel in every respect. Our bedroom was a standard room (unless we had been upgraded) and was huge with its own entrance area and walk in wardrobe! We ate in the Terrace restaurant and had breakfast in the other restaurant- both were great experiences. We enjoyed sitting in the bar and sipping cocktails!

With reference to the famous book "places to see before you die", the famous Old Cataract combined with a Nile cruise on a Dahabaya was on my bucket list. It was more than expected, it was breath-taking. First of all, we had this wonderful and delicious High Tea Ceremony on the beautiful terrace overlooking the Nile and the picturesque landscape. Then we were asked by a friendly lad, called Diecy, if we would like to see the former rooms of Agatha Christie. Of course! :-) Wow! As soon as we saw the terrace with the shades in front of the main entrance, we felt set back to the beginning of the last century. I was speechless. The entrance hall of the hotel is incredible beautiful - the old elevator, the marble, the colours. What an experience. Then we took the lift upstairs to Agatha’s rooms, parts of them still contained original items. Diecy even offered to take photos of us. Thank you so much dear. I guess, you have no idea, how happy that made us. Even if I think of this visit now, it puts a smile on my face. This was by far the highlight of the whole trip. Special thanks to Mohammed Asran, who made all of this possible and of course our wonderful guide Adel. I will never forget this special moment in my life.

We have just wound up a 3 night stay at the Old Cataract, absolutely stunning property with incredible views/lovely pool area but catering offerings I’m afraid to say disappointing (the Egyptian restaurant was by far the best option). Would expect much more from such a high end property. I also echo what a previous guest has said regarding lukewarm service. Room in the original building was very nicely maintained and extremely comfortable bedding. Disappointed with the quality of the vehicle the hotel provided us with for our onward transfer to Al Moudira Hotel in Luxor, again we expected more.

We had a short but brilliant stay at this old but very famous hotel - noted for the stays of Agatha Christie and lots of famous politicians and film stars. The views of the Nile are spectacular and the staff are super friendly and helpful. There are lots of eating options and they are competitively priced too. Very enjoyable .

Upon arrival, I was shocked to find that our originally booked garden-facing room had been swapped for one facing the street with only a partial garden view. After significant hassle, I managed to have it changed, but the process should have been seamless from the start. Another issue was the overwhelming number of people filming reels throughout the hotel, which quickly became irritating and disrupted the peaceful atmosphere. Additionally, the reservation policy for shaded tables was baffling. Despite several empty spots, the staff insisted they were reserved—but as time passed, we noticed they were offered to regular walk-ins. This inconsistency was frustrating, as we had assumed it was a first-come, first-served system. Ultimately, this is a stunning hotel, yet it suffers from poor management. Allowing influencers and content creators to roam freely may help promote the property, but it does so at the expense of guest comfort.
