TouristBoy Families - TripAdvisor review

I have always expected that an Ibis budget hotel would be basic but clean and decent. This hotel does not really meet this standard. The staff were all very pleasant and welcoming, and it was obvious that real efforts were being made to keep the rather bleak rooms clean. Yet our one night stay was quite unpleasant. The hotel amenity is obviously tired and worn, but the sound insulation seemed minimal. We arrived at the hotel in the early evening and there were already groups of people partying loudly in the corridor. My wife became unwell and had to return to the room around 7pm. She then had to endure a person loudly and persistently banging on the door and demanding to be let in - quite frightening for a woman by herself. The rest of our family group arrived back about 11pm and there was a person sitting in the lobby who I think was a security officer, but his role was unclear. Repeatedly during the night, I was woken by loud drunken shouting in the corridor - I would guess different groups as some raised voices in groups appeared male, others mainly female. My daughter had the misfortune to be in a room near the lift where some guest triggered an alarm in the early hours. There is, of course, no way to seek assistance with the rowdiness as there are no room phones. The breakfast was acceptable for a budget experience, but we were relieved to leave and stay somewhere better the next night. The location of the hotel, just a short walk from the city walls, is excellent but this does not compensate for the other drawbacks. This hotel is clearly a place where loud and disruptive behaviour is tolerated.

Loud dogs

Your staff very kindly allowed me to switch rooms (my score does not refer to them - they were wonderful), but you should not let dogs stay in your hotels unless they are guide dogs. This thing barked all night and I could hear it from the 3rd floor because your sound proofing is woefully inadequate.

Good stay in a very centrally located hotel

A good experience, a very reasonable rate for a clean and comfortable room with a nice view towards York Minster. A good night's sleep in a room that wasn't over/under heated. The breakfast was self-service with a an excellent full English and a generous wider menu. The staff were very friendly.
