Getting off a twelve hour flight with my 10 yo and 12 yo children, simply needed a room to rest for 12 hours between flights, ripped off as they insisted we upgraded, even though three person rooms not shown when booking. Alternative was be thrown back out on the concourse for 12 hours with young children, so no choice but to pay. Extortion by unfriendly people.

I had a 13 hour overnight layover. Mercure was as advertised, comfortable and convenient. It was a plus to not have to worry about security or immigration to catch my morning flight.

Woke us up in the middle of the night

We checked in at 10:30pm. At 1am, the front desk clerk called us (and woke us up). Apparently we had not paid for the room and we needed to pay for it now. The clerk was insistent that we had to pay now and couldn't wait until the morning. So my partner went to the lobby and paid for the room. Mercure had our credit card on file from the booking, so not sure why they couldn't have used the card on file or why they couldn't have just waited until the morning to charge the credit card. Very disappointing to wake us up like that when it was not an emergency. Location in the AMS is great and very convenient for our morning flight.
