Very Poor 'Privilege' Room

We booked a 'privilege' (upgraded) room for our three night break in Oxford. Turns out the only privilege was getting a dungeon room with no windows and was damp and located adjacent to the goods in entrance. The room was unbelievably poorly designed offering no windows only a roof light with a blind that opened and closed itself randomly at all hours of the day & night. All our clothes smelled damp and the room had appallingly inadequate lighting. Our room number was 111 which seemed to be in an extension to the hotel, so I cannot comment on other rooms in the original part of the building. The shame of it is that the staff, on the whole (except the miserable bar tender), were friendly and helpful. However the buffet breakfast was poor with lots of things unavailable or had clearly been kept 'hot' for far too long A reasonable location but do not be fooled by the pictures of the outside of the hotel, it looks nothing like these and is in fact located on a suburban street, not in a country setting as suggested

Schönes, neu renoviertes Hotel in einem ruhigen Vorort von Oxford

Wir wählten dieses etwas außerhalb von Oxford gelegene Hotel, weil die zentraleren Häuser kein überzeugendes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis zu bieten schienen. Wir wurden insgesamt nicht enttäuscht. Das Etablissement befindet sich im ruhigen, angenehmen Vorort Iffley und ist von der Oxforder Innenstadt in etwa einer Viertelstunde mit den alle paar Minuten verkehrenden lokalen Bussen gut zu erreichen. Das Hotelgebäude liegt etwas zurückversetzt inmitten einer schön gestalteten parkähnlichen Anlage. An der Rezeption ausgesprochen freundliche, sehr persönliche Begrüßung. Die Lobby ist sehr einladend gestaltet und folgt, wie das gesamte Hotel, auf nicht übertrieben wirkende Weise dem Thema Schuhmacherei und Schneiderei. Unser Zimmer offenbar erst kürzlich renoviert und ebenso schick wie praktisch eingerichtet, sodass wir uns vom ersten Moment an wohl fühlten. Nett das handgeschriebne Begrüßungskärtchen sowie die bereitgestellten Pralinen. Bequemes Bett mit guten Kissen, das für uns aber etwas härter hätte sein können. Badezimmer klein, aber ausreichend und ebenfalls neuwertig. Allerdings hat man es bei der Sanierung leider versäumt, die Badewanne gegen eine Duschkabine auszutauschen. In der Wanne duschen zu müssen ist unpraktisch und sicherlich nicht mehr zeitgemäß. Wir hätten diesem Hotel sicherlich volle fünf Punkte gegeben, wenn nicht das Frühstück ein mittleres Chaos gewesen wäre. Die beiden dort tätigen Mitarbeiterinnen, eine junge Frau und eine Dame im fortgeschrittenen Alter, wirkten völlig überfordert. Die Tische waren nicht richtig abgewischt, und auf den Bänken lagen Krümel und anderer Unrat wie leere Salztütchen. Am Büffet fehlten ständig und für längere Zeit elementare Dinge: Zunächst gab es keine Milch zum Kaffee, dann keinen Kaffee, dann keinen Orangensaft. Brot war komplett ausgegangen, ohne dass nachgelegt worden wäre; wir mussten aktiv darum bitten. Insgesamt schienen die beiden Mitarbeiterinnen dem Zustand des Buffets kaum Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken. Benutztes Geschirr an unserem Tisch wurde nicht abgeräumt. Hier müsste das Hotelmanagement dringend etwas tun, um den hohen Standard dieses ansonsten sehr überzeugenden Hauses auch beim Frühstück durchzuhalten.
