So clean, so modern, great staff very helpful. Just think breakfast was a bit messy - I certainly got my steps in every thing all over the place. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Lovely hotel and staff

Well located and lovely hotel. Friendly staff on all levels. Parking tight and expensive. I think guests should get free parking for what you get. Not worth £15 a night. Beautiful food in the restaurant and great service. Shout out to ‘Sim’ who took great care of us. We stayed in a Privileged Bay View room, which was fabulous and had everything we needed. Very peaceful. Huge TV. Fab shower. Coffee machine and mini fridge. The only downside to the hotel were the dogs. We were enjoying the ambiance and cocktails and a guest allowed their dog to yap, yap, yap constantly at another dog, and didn’t even attempt to shut it up. Staff did nothing. Also, people walking their dogs around the busy eating areas whilst getting their breakfast. We don’t expect this in a 4* hotel for what we had to pay. Shame, as otherwise it was a lovely stay.

Frustrating stay

The hotel charged me for a stay I cancelled well within the allotted time. I changed the stay to the following week. I have been charged for both reservations and they are on my credit card statement. It has taken several phone calls before my arrival and visits to the reception desk to sort it out. I have at last received a credit of £340 for the cancelled reservation. However I will still have to pay it this month. The credit is on the next month's statement. I have spent hours on this and twice the hotel denied it was their error. This somewhat spoiled the stay. Secondly we could not have single beds even though there were two mattresses. I travel with my adult daughter and we do not wish to share a bed. I paid for the best room to ensure we had an extra sofa bed. Unfortunately it means we lose the sofa so there is nowhere to sit in the room apart from the bed. It also takes up a lot of the room. As a gold member I was entitled to an upgrade but there was nothing to upgrade to. I wanted to ensure we had a good room with a sofa bed as it was my daughter's birthday. She has a slight disability. At registration I had to wait ages as there was only one member of staff dealing with a time consuming family. It was only when a third person arrived did they call someone else out from the back office. I was checked in. I had to explain about my overcharge. I wasn't welcomed as a Gold member and had to ask for the free drinks vouchers. The room was very nice especially with being able to use the sofa by the window to enjoy a cup of tea. It was just such a pity that we lost this facility once the sofa was changed to the deb. We had to squeeze past it to look out the window and the desk became almost inaccessible. While downstairs looked modern and impressive it was completely open plan and there were no nice cosy areas to sit in. It was also cold. The couple of sofas were grubby and often occupied. We had dinner in the restaurant which was cold being part of the completely open plan area. The outside doors were always left open. Several times I closed them and they were very heavy, but people were coming in and out and leaving them open. Why can't they be automatic? The food was acceptable but not well balanced and the menu choice rather limited. My daughter's tagitelle dish was rather claggy and nothing to balance the creamy sauce and there were no vegetables. The bar staff were helpful with our free drinks. The white wine I chose was not very pleasant. It felt like it had been opened too long. I am glad I did not pay for it . It was £11 for a medium glass. I could hardly finish it. I suspect at that price it wasn't a popular choice and had been open too long. I am fairly knowledgeable about wine and it was very disappointing. After dinner we went back to the room as there was nowhere to sit in the lofty space. It was far too cold. A hotel needs areas which feel cosy and pleasant especially with our climate. We went back to the room and had to sit on the beds. My daughter didn't find this comfortable. There was no complimentary water in the room as there should have been, only coke which we don't drink. We ended up going to bed early. The shower was food but the floor gets wet outside the shower area as it's like a wet room. This was a bit hazardous for my daughter. There was no hair conditioner in the dispenser. Breakfasts were disappointing. The choice was quite limited. There was no nice bread. There was one white loaf apart from the sliced bread. There was always a big queue at the toaster and the coffee machine. Some of the tables were so close together you had to squeeze to get out. There was a big lady sitting at the next lady with two walking sticks. I had to hand these to her when she got out as there was so little space and she has to squeeze out sideways each time involving her bottom being in my face. Poor lady. She tried to be very careful. It was embarrassing for both of us. It certainly didn't make for a relaxed breakfast. There had been two nice tables by the window which were in the sun on the first day. I asked if we could set there, but they were reserved for dogs! I was given the reason why. I was somewhat bemused. I could see no dogs were at the two empty tables while I were there. What a ridiculous policy. The dogs take precedence over paying guests for the best tables. The last day of our stay the weather was atrocious so we were stuck in the hotel. The doors were still open and it was so cold. There was nowhere comfortable to sit and nothing to do. It would have been nice to have comfortable areas/ rooms with games and newspapers etc. if you are having a seaside break in our inclement weather, you need this. We went back to our room which was at least warm even though there was nowhere to sit. We were relieved to leave in the end. There were no nice little touches especially as it was daughter's birthday. We have had much nicer hotel experiences and were grateful to be going home.
