Love coming to Paignton and thought I’d try the new Mercure on the seafront. Was not disappointed. Service was excellent, breakfast good and fine selection of drinks at the bar. I stayed in a room on the top floor overlooking the sea and it didn’t disappoint. The only downside was I left my charger there but an email to them was quickly answered and I’m going to collect it. Will definitely stay there again.

We were slightly disappointed with the standard of our rooms and some of the service providers. We have visited a couple of times previously but felt it was below parr this time. Issues were: Room 201 had no slippers Neither room had biscuits or decaffeinated teabags Towels were hard Room 203 the tile grout in the shower room was dirty and the drain was smelling. On Saturday evening we requested hot chocolate in the reception, it was unable to be served to us we had to collect it and unfortunately it was quite cool. I expect these seem like minor issues which they are but we felt the standard was slipping for such a lovely hotel. On a plus we had some great staff experiences as well and as always the view is fantastic.

Sadly we had no working fridge, this was across the hotel due to the heat wave in August. I believe it should have been mentioned when booking. And sadly the worst pillows ever. Staff tried their best with fridge and we got one on our 3 rd night. We were leaving the next day. Clean and comfortable rooms, breakfast for a vegan not great and bread was sliced supermarket bread. For the price you pay I would say it was a little under par.

The hotel was modern and inviting. Spotlessly clean and relaxing. Lots of different areas to sit. The room was really spacious and had everything we needed, loved the mini fridge and complimentary soft drinks. It was so quiet and extremely well sound proofed from the road. We had a Bay view which was spectacular. Breakfast was plentiful and hot. Friendly staff at Breakfast. The thing that let this hotel down was the really poor evening service, I suspect this may be due to new staff, however, there are industry standard musts and it was evident that not all of the waiting staff were equal. It took 25 minutes to take our orders, noticed the couple that were in the lift going down to the restaurant with us, were eating their food 20 minutes before us. No check back, long waits for the plates to be cleared and staff not reading the room. I could say more but this doesn’t mean that I would not stay again, it’s a lovely hotel and would recommend, just expect long delays at dinner.

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hotel’s modern and relaxing atmosphere, the spaciousness of your room, the complimentary soft drinks and mini fridge, and of course the spectacular Bay View. It is also wonderful to know that you found the hotel spotlessly clean, peaceful and well soundproofed, and that you enjoyed our breakfast and the service from the breakfast team. We are, however, very sorry to hear about your experience with the evening restaurant service. Waiting 25 minutes for your order to be taken, followed by delays with your meal and clearing plates, is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide. We also appreciate your comments regarding the lack of a check-back and staff not being sufficiently attentive to guests’ needs. While we are pleased that you recognise that some of this may be down to new members of the team, we completely agree that our guests should receive a consistently high standard of service regardless of who is looking after them. Your comments have been shared with our management and restaurant teams so that we can address these points and ensure the appropriate training and support are in place. We are particularly grateful that, despite the shortcomings you experienced in the restaurant, you would still consider staying with us again and would recommend the hotel. We truly appreciate this and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back, providing the excellent overall experience you deserve. Thank you again for your honest and constructive feedback.

Good location on the seafront. Nice breakfast included in our deal. A real shame they have decided not to provide complimentary biscuits in the room, as it's a 4 star hotel we would have thought that was a basic. Car park was very cramped and £15 a day.

Comfortable room ..food and service was variable from excellent to slow. But always corrected . Very busy evening service.
