Fantastic location, very central,. We had room 201 wow what a view. Bed was huge and room was big as well, had everything you would need. Walk in shower, slippers and bath robes. View was over looking the prom and pier. Breakfast was great even had salmon. No issues with a table . Staff were very friendly and helpful. Yes parking is first come and £15 for 24 hrs but I didn’t move the car! No matter where you stay it’s the going rate. Town is a four minute walk. Torquay a bit further walked there and got bus back (£4 for two persons) Would definitely be going back.

We booked a package which included a £60 credit for dinner in the ala carte restaurant. On arrival we were told they were too busy with a coach party and we could eat next door at the Ibis. I asked if the menu was the same and was told no. We dressed up and walked to the ibis in storm Katherine. On arrival it was almost empty and the barman told us no ala carte food and could we wait while he sorted some waffles for another customer. The menu consisted of burgers, hot dogs, scampi in a basket etc. Certainly not what we paid for and were expecting. We went back to the Mercure to ask that they find us a table. Eventually they did and got the level of food we expected. It could all have been avoided and was an unnecessary nuisance.

Staff were very professional and courteous. Hotel was of a high standard. Location was acceptable but Paignton city centre looked in need of serious care and attention. Overall our stay was relaxing.
