Mondrian Seoul Itaewon 5 stars

The stay was good, not great. The hotel is new, the rooms are comfortable and well designed, the gym is amazing and it has a 25m swimming pool (though I wish they added another lane line so it had three lanes, not just two). The location is close to Itaewon but you’re going to need 10-15 mins to walk into the thick of it. On the less good side: the location of the front desk/concierge station on the second floor (as opposed to the ground floor) really wasn’t great for when you need help on the way out. There is a massive construction site right next door and they start early in the morning. The shower is right next to the toilet (separated by a thin glass wall) and my one started to leak so there was always a great puddle of water in the toilet. And one of my fellow guests started playing music at 7am and I could hear it through the walls… not the best way to wake up.

Amazing location and property. Guest services was great along with the property dining.

The Mondrian is my usual go-to in Seoul and I have stayed here multiple times since it was renovated. I stayed at the Mondrian on two separate stays in September 2023. The first stay ended poorly when the ground floor staff just stood around as I was struggling to find a cab with a very large suitcase. I expressed my displeasure to the manager, Mr Bae Hyunil, who quickly rectified the situation on my second stay. In fact he and his team went above and beyond. I was very impressed. Will continue to stay here again. The location is especially great, with easy access to both Gangnam and Gangbuk.

We stayed at the Mondrian for two separate legs of our trip to Seoul. Both were generally great. Staff were helpful, amenities were excellent, music was always loud but not a nuisance, and location was perfect. Truly the only cons of both stays were the layout of the bathroom. It's not a practical layout by any means. The shower leaks and you can't prevent this by putting down a bath mat because the shower door gets caught. The overall area is also extremely tight for more than one person and also very open for anyone seeking a little bit of privacy. Not the worst but also not the greatest. The overall room sizes were cozy but still a decent size for a hotel in a large metropolitan city.

The hotel was well located and comfortable. Rooftop bar very nice for an evening/sunset drink. Gym facilities really good. Great bookshop in the basement. I found it hard to work the TV, to the point I gave up (maybe there was something wrong with my remote). Also after a 5 night stay, it felt a bit much to have to pay KRW 30,000 to use the shower in the gym before my evening flight because it was after check out time. Especially as for my KRW 30,000 I only got a hand towel. This unfortunately is my lasting impression, and the staff service in relation to this was not what I'd expect from a 5 star hotel.
