Mercure Manyar is dubbed as a business hotel. But it is probably more family friendly! The executive rooms have the bedrooms on the upper deck while a sitting room on the lower deck. Unfortunately i found this arrangement particularly unsuitable as there was no place to setup a laptop for work purposes. Shiva at the front desk kindly allowed me to shift to a regular room. Here the work table is at the wrong angle with the TV, which I like to use as a second monitor. There's unfortunately no bar to relax in after a hard day's work. But since this is Surabaya, there are plenty of bars nearby serving delicious pork dishes and over priced drinks. E.g. Our bar, Dining Club ... The breakfast spread is good, and i was pleasantly surprised when Nova and Faisal went the extra mile to get me my low glycaemic meals. Overall, a very pleasant stay. The Indonesian touch probably made it that much better and allowed me to overlook the minor irritants. Just to put it in perspective, I just left Novotel Platinum Bangkok, and frankly it has left a very bad taste in the mouth, and unlike Mercure Surabaya Manyar, I am definitely going to skip Novotel Platinum next time I am in Bangkok in about a month's time.

Towels are not clean. Water kettle in the room is dirty. Bed pillow are uncomfortably high.

Hotel location is very strategic, you can find many famous n delicious resto near this hotel. Quite close to Galaxy Mall too. But unfortunately, the size of the hotel is very tiny for us. The parking lot, Hotel Lobby, Paparisa Resto, its Gym also the hotel rooms feel soooo tiny n doesn't have high ceiling too. The bed size only Queen, so not really big for family of 3. Breakfast choice was good although not many options available, but the food taste yummy. The hospitality of the staff is so-so, not cheerful and not full of smile like other international hotel chain (like Marriott n IHG). Hopefully they can improve it.
