Terrible. Very understaffed! We booked under the assumption that Mantra was a quality Hotel. The receptionist was answering phones, attending to the front desk check ins, check outs and all enquiries. We stayed one night with 2 adult children in 2 rooms. We rang to see if there were any twin rooms available and were told to book a superior queen room as these beds could be split into singles, this room cost $36.00 more than the standard queen room my husband and I booked but we were happy to do this to get the 2 single beds. I tried to call multiple times only to be asked to hold and be left on hold until the phone cut out. I did finally manage to get through to asked for the bed to be split. However, when we did arrive at the hotel the bed was not split into singles. We were told house keeping finished at 2.00pm and the reception was waiting for the bar staff to help her split the beds. My husband offered to help her split the beds but was told help was on the way. After a very long wait they did not arrive to help. We were offered a roll away bed for free but were not happy with this considering the room cost $225 per night. We were then offered an upgrade to the king room with a spa and a roll away bed. By this time it was obvious we were not getting the twin room so we took the king spa room with the roll away bed. We had driven from Townsville that morning and were very tired and just wanted to rest. The reception was the one who brought the roll away bed to the room. The service in the restaurant was very poor. The table was dirty and the staff were very inattentive and unprofessional, we had to go to the bar to see if it was table service. We were told they would get to us in a minute. We waited a very long time for drinks. The food, however, was surprisingly very good. We ordered scallops and a steak. Both were cooked perfectly and delicious. We waited a long time for our plates to be cleared and then waited another long period to be asked about desserts. When nobody came my husband went to the bar to ask about desserts only to be told the kitchen closed 5 minutes ago. Interestingly, the next night when we checked into our accommodation in Bagara and mentioned how bad the Mantra Mackay was the woman next to me said she had stayed there too and won’t ever book there again.

Our room was extremely spacious, bed very comfortable, we had a kitchenette and bar fridge and also a double spa. Lovely views from our balcony overlooking the marina. Breakfast was very good.

Room was clean. Small maintenance needed eg balcony door wouldn't open. Breakfast was plentiful, Saturday night, meal was terrible,the beef was tough and the chicken was under done. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
