We booked Mercure so we would stay in similar standard accommodation on our 10 day interstate road trip. The room was too small. Our ‘balcony’ fitted 2 stools and a wooden tray attached to the railing. It overlooked the hospital, which seems part of the hotel complex or Vice versa. It also was the overflow car park which woke us late at night with noisy drunken patrons returning from a night out and early morning checkouts conversing under our balcony. Mercure should have a standard size double room for all its hotels. There was no restaurant, just a bar to order meals and drinks that were served at seats or tables in the foyer. It was more a backpacker hotel. The ‘Happy Hour’ barman wouldn’t give us a discounted drink as we didn’t know our Accor membership expiry date. We have 2 memberships and never needed to show a card before. We have our numbers and the website as proof but it wasn’t good enough. So we drank and dined elsewhere.
