Durbs Couples - TripAdvisor review

My husband and I had 2 great nights here at the Mercure Bedford! It’s a little gem of a hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. We were warmly greeted by Denisa at reception who was very welcoming as were the rest of the team during our stay! Our room had a lovely view across the river where we spent time people & swan watching across the embankment. The hotel is perfectly located to explore Bedford where we found some great little cafe’s, bakeries and independent shops. We also enjoyed exploring the beautiful countryside surrounding Bedford. Literally out the front door and you are able to take a wonderful walk all the way along the river, across the numerous islands and then back along the embankment - it was fabulous. Breakfast in the morning is on the first floor overlooking the river, and has plenty of choice, from continental to full English. Jay and the team were attentive and friendly both mornings! We had dinner on the 2nd night in Revel, which also overlooks the river, and really enjoyed it. It had been a beautifully sunny day and we caught the stunning sunset! The menu has lots of great options and the food was tasty, well cooked and fresh! Butter chicken curry delicious! The staff were great. A brilliant stay, great staff and hotel - we would definitely stay again, Thank you!

A couple of items that would benefit from management attention .1 : Room Temperature The temperature in the room was low and could not get the heating to my preferred level despite following the instructions. On arrival the heating system was blowing out cold air making the room cold. The thermostat control was indicating 19C. The desired room temperature (21C) was set and immediately afterwards I left the room. When I returned late in the night the room was still cold but there was no fan running. The room temperature was still showing 19C. Setting the temperature level up to 25C did not result in any change as the fan initially started to blow out cold air before shutting down, It appeared that the heating was switched off overnight as room was cold in morning and the temperature control still showing 19C (which was not correct). I travel extensively and this type of room temperature issue however seems to be a particularly British problem with the Mercure and ALL hotel group which I do not experience this elsewhere or with other non-group hotels.. This means that I prefer to stay at a different hotel group however on this occasion this was not possible. I have raised this with Mercure before but given my repeating experiences that was obviously a waste of time. 2 : Availability of Wall Sockets The increase in portable electronic equipment means that there is an increasing need for additional sockets. There were however only three available wall sockets, one at the desk, one by the bed and one by the door (presumably for the cleaner). There was a coffee machine on a floor unit which was plugged into a wall socket behind and to access it would have required the (heavy) unit to be moved and so not a feasible option - why should I have to do this anyway ???. The unit was also insufficiently large to enable the tea making tray to be placed on it with the coffee maker in position. This meant that the kettle had to be plugged into the floor socket if the desk socket was in use.
