Mercure Bedford Centre Hotel 4 stars

The air conditioner makes a noise and keeps you awake, turn it off and then room gets freezing. Stayed two nights and had breakfast both days. Breakfast looks like it was there from last week, totally dried out under heat lamps and not replaced when empty, unless asked. The tables are not cleaned and reset when someone leave, so you have to ask for cutlery, this seems an inconvenience for them, when do.

The hotel was a solid, good value choice for our overnight stay in Bedford. The building is quite an eyesore from the outside, however public areas are modern and bright (apart from the odd corridor that is yet to be refurbished). The hotel car park is located behind (there is an entrance at this side too) and is reasonably priced at £5 per night. It is a bit of a walk to reception from here so bear that in mind if you have mobility issues. Room was very clean, and felt as if it had been recently refurbished - fixtures in the small bathroom were in good condition, strangely the shower head was clearly older than the rest of the room, along with the bathroom door! Bed was soft and got a great nights rest - one other minor inconvenience is the air con unit made that side of the room very hot and the other side not so (it was December and the metal framed window was old and not insulated). Good bar area overlooking the river and price was reasonable. Overall, good value considering the location right in the middle of town.

Stayed here 11th November. The hot water and heating had gone down. This meant we couldn’t have the room we booked. So they moved us to a standard room. This was £15 cheaper than our original room. However they still charged us for the king panoramic view room even tho they placed us in a big standard room. 4 weeks later we are STILL waiting for a refund. We’ve emailed and called several times and kept getting told the manager is either off or unavailable and someone will get back to us… but they never do!!! Awful customer service! Please refund us!!

Friendly staff, easy check in. Unfortunately cleaning of room, especially bathroom, very poor. Lots of dust and hair in corners of bathroom. Hotel does need an update, damaged doors.
