Holger D Couples - TripAdvisor review

Good location in the centre of Ferrara. The friendly staff helps to find a parking place; to discover the city a car is not necessary. Very good breakfast and comfortable rooms. We would always choose this hotel again.

Hey Holger, so nice of you! :)

Good hotel near the impressive Castello, well suited for trips in the area BUT why not an entrance sign?

IWNoordergraaf Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

Hotel Mercure Ferrara is very well located, across the square of the Largo Castello, well worth a visit it is even cooler in there then the scorching temperatures in the open air. I guess that is usual in Italian summers. I stayed for three days and also made some trips with my own car in the area. The Po delta is interesting to explore and nearby (e.g. Porto Garibaldi, ~40 minutes by car) there are good and easily accessible beaches. I also rode to Ravenna, the ancient capital of the Gothic era in Italy, just about one hour away. In Ferrara itself, the old centre is nice to explore and there are even many medieval city walls well preserved or perhhaps restored. The hotel has a good level of service, even a fridge for cold drinks in my room. One remark: if you arrive in the dark, the hotel is not well incidated on street level. Why not a sign, perhaps at the edge of the Castello square where the entrance is? Yes, the name Mercure is on the face higher at the building by you only see that from some distance (and then, you can not drive from Vialo Cavour onto the square since it is one-way. The streets around the hotel are quite a labyrinth as well. Some road signs would have been of great help. For all what further matters, nothing but good about the hotel and the staff. They even managed to cope with a technical key-crisis on the day of my departure to my great satisfaction.

Thank you so so much, have a nice day and I hope another nice stay with us!

staff is very nice; location is the best in Ferrara however a few items are needed to be addressed here: 1). shower: has no shelf or ledge or anywhere but the small floor to put anything - bar-soap, shampoo, wash rag, etc, making it impractical and dangerous. 2). in the room: window screens in all the bedrooms to allow fresh air in without flys and bugs, (this will save energy money too) 3). weather stripping insulation around the doors to each rooms needed: because an enormous amount of light (& noise) bleeds in from the hallways 4). also inside the rooms: black tape should be installed on all the l.e.d. red & green lights which are annoying at night when trying to sleep - especially the smoke alarm blinking over the bed 5). breakfast should have more healthy items too, (currently there are too many sweets, sugar, and caffeine) 6). there is no option to add the breakfast at the discounted rate before arrival, which should be an option when managing your reservation, currently no one can do this if you were unable to do so when initially booking.” 7). front door to hotel: is closed yet there is no sign on the door to indicate that the new entrance is around the corner. this is a real bad first impression when you are trying to find the entrance which appears to face the castle directly - yet when you approach there you see boxes piled up blocking the locked door. what a shame - this is prime real-estate - many people probably think your hotel is closed permanently and condemned. you are losing business on many kinds of guests - hotel & restaurant. even inside the breakfast room - it faces the castle yet you hide this amazing view from inside - why? this is your number 1 selling point and you stuff it in the rubbish bin. open those windows, plus open that entrance, wake up.

'Good stay. Helpful staff
