Excellent Breakfast at Al Saraya Restaurant

TripAdvisor rating 1.0/5

Ken O TripAdvisor review

I went to Al Saraya Restaurant for breakfast on my first day after arriving in Jordan and returned two more times. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I would like to give a special mention for one very helpful staff member named Maryann G. She gave me a lot of help about finding out about the area and where I should visit during my stay.

The pick for Petra!

Just stayed at the Movenpick in Petra which is a stone's throw away from the site. We stayed here a couple of nights and the stay was comfortable. The rooms aren’t huge, but they are just right for a couple who want to explore Petra. They also have a few different restaurants including a rooftop venue, and fine dining restaurant, and another that serves buffet meals. The breakfast was average but the dinner was really good. We were welcomed by Ziad who walked us through the buffet and explained some of the dishes that I was unfamiliar with. Fouad was another member of the staff who attended to us while we had dinner and he was extremely. There was a wide variety of cuisines and dishes, and after a 15km hike the dinner buffet totally hit the spot, that along with excellent middle eastern hospitality made it a perfect day! Additional shout out to Rasha (at the lobby lounge), Amina (at the pancake/waffle station) and Abdulrehman who waited on us at breakfast!

Dear kluge2, Thank you for your delightful review! We're so glad to hear you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed our dining options, especially after your adventures in Petra. We truly appreciate you mentioning our team members Ziad, Fouad, Rasha, Amina, and Abdulrehman – they’ll be thrilled to know they made your experience memorable. We hope to welcome you back soon for another fantastic stay! Safe travels! Warm regards, Abedrabo Twaissi Cluster General Manager

This is my second time staying at this hotel. It is in a perfect location to visit Petra and the staff are all helpful and friendly. The courtya The dinner buffet is expansive, varied, and very tasty. There were two staff members (Ziad and Fouad) who were like a "tag team" and very accommodating with service, friendliness, and hospitality. Kudos to them! The interiors of the hotel are beautiful, from the common 'courtyard' area, the bar, and the fine dining restaurant with beautiful mother-of-pearl furniture and Middle Eastern touches. Wonderful stay!

Best feature of this hotel is its location. Rooms OK - reasonable size and nothing fancy. Breakfast offering ordinary.

Stayed here for three nights in February. Hotel's common areas are very Arabian nights style with the balcony areas on the upper floors looking down into a large open space on the ground floor that had lots of lounge chairs and which acts as a meet and greet area or bar/drinks area. Our room was on the second floor facing the swimming pool and was a reasonable size. It was furnished with a queen sized bed (comfortable) that had a small table with a reading light on either side of it, a free standing lamp, two arm chairs and a small round coffee table. There was also a desk with a chair and another reading lamp, a fixed luggage rack holder, a wall mounted flat screen TV, a wardrobe with hanging space and shelves, a minbar, safe, kettle etc. The bathroom was on the small side with a walk-in shower (no bath). There was sufficient space on the vanity basin to store toiletries. The room was very clean and the included WIFI worked well. The main adverse issues revolved around the meals and staff in the breakfast area and bar. On our first evening there was a large tour group in attendance who had a band performing for them and effectively giving them a guard of honour into the main restaurant - which doubled as the main large breakfast room. As a result the hotel's smaller restaurant was not open and we were forced to eat in the Al Maqa'ad Bar and order from the bar menu. Food was average. The next morning the large breakfast room was open for the large tour group and whilst there was (or had been) quite a comprehensive buffet of hot and cold food many of the dishes had been devoured and not replenished. On our second morning only the small restaurant was open and the buffet was very restricted and a very ordinary affair with no hot food. When we were seated we were asked if we would like some hot food and were given a sausage with some scrambled egg. That is, there was no choice. Later that day we had lunch in the bar, again as neither of the restaurants were open. On this occasion we both had the steak which came out very rare - could have walked back to the kitchen, certainly not medium rare. Service was very slow. We gave the hotel a miss for dinner that evening. Breakfast on the third morning was also in the little restaurant with a similar restricted buffet - no hot food - as the previous morning. On this occasion though the delightful Filipino lady asked us whether we wanted eggs or something else hot and gave us several options. We both had a very good omelette. Staff overall in the restaurants, bar and reception were mixed. The Filipino ladies we encountered were very good though the majority of the males were not so. One strange issue also is that there were no bathrooms in any of these areas on the ground floor or in the reception area. You either went up to your room or down to the gym in the basement. The roof top bar area was also not open - though this may be seasonal. As stated earlier the feature of this hotel is its location. The ticket office for Petra is approximately 100 metres away from the front door and the entrance to the site approximately 200 metres.

Dear westy54, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoyed our prime location and the cleanliness of your room. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your meals and the varying levels of service. We are currently operating our Al Ghadeer Roof Garden seasonally, which you can find more information about on our website. We appreciate your understanding and hope you’ll give us another chance to serve you better in the future. Your comments will help us improve, and we strive to make your next stay more enjoyable. Safe travels! Warm regards, Abedrabo Twaissi Cluster General Manager
