I was given an upgrade however I was happy with what I booked and would've preferred that room choice as the room I was upgraded to had stairs to get from the door to the living area and bedroom which wasn't great with having to carry a suitcase up. I also have to check out at 6am but no one was at reception.

Firstly, it is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed our central CBD location! In regards to the room upgrade, the room you had booked required you to go up and down more stairs than the room we upgraded you to; for this reason we thought you would be more comfortable in the new room, but I do apologise that this was not communicated to you when you checked in. Being a small, boutique hotel our reception is not open 24 hours -- please do let us know if you experienced any difficulties with your departure and we can look at how we can resolve these issues for future stays. I'm sorry to hear that you had difficulties with your luggage between our hotel and our partner car park. Our location truly is superb in the middle of Melbourne CBD, and given the location and being a heritage building we unfortunately do not have car parking on site and have limited alternative options. Please do call ahead next time you stay with us and we will be more than happy to help you drop off your luggage at the hotel before you park. Stayed twice now, roo ms are not cleaned well microwave was dirty,shower tap needs to be changed to a more user friendly handle. The hotel needs a ramp to get heavy cases up to reception. Location is brilliant and easy to get around the city.

Well located with a bad smell

The location was good (if being smack-bang in the middle of the city is your thing) and our room/flat was decent. The person at the front counter was really friendly and helpful - kudos to her. The hotel was fairly cheap so my expectations weren't that high to start with, I wasn't expecting some Hilton-level of fancy sheets and marble bathrooms. However, while I could have let the half-assed cleaning (what was the spatter on my bed-head?!) and the grotty pigeon aviary outside the window pass, the SMELL of the room was hard to ignore. The whole place had a penetrating rancid smell that hit you like a wall as soon as you opened the door. Did something die in there? I'd rather not know... One got used to it after 30 mins or so, but I had to wash everything in my packing when I got home as the smell had infused the fabric. Vile.

I have given my score because I asked for a quiet room. It wasn't. There was loud laughter and talking from the afternoon when I arrived. I presumed it was other guests. When I returned in the evening I thought the voices were louder and when I opened the window it was obvious it was coming from somewhere in the street. With the window closed the voices were so loud it sounded like they were in the room with me and even though the staff were quick to move me after my first noisy night where I didn't sleep, the second room was just as noisy. Again, it was so loud that it sounded like there was inside my living room, especially because they were drunkenly laughing and talking all night till around 5 am. Another sleepless night. I was exhausted and not happy but thought if I asked to be moved yet again, I'd be labelled as "that" kind of guest. I loved the location, it was fantastic. I did mention the issue to the staff and the manager apologised and did mention that there are bars close by, that there had been other complaints, that there was a limit in place on the noise and that she would check the cctv to see what had happened. I understand but not all rooms face the bars etc. I think a credit voucher would have been appropriate considering I hadn't slept for 2 nights. I would come back again if I could be guaranteed that I'd have a quiet room no matter what night of the week it is.

The only issue i have is that since i had a front location room, which was directly opposite a night club at level 5, the noise was annoying, however when i return I would ask to have a room away from the front.

Housekeeping let it down only done once in 5 night stay asked for towels didnt come till asked again next day. One of those nights was public holiday.

Dungeon in a nice location

Staff are really nice and incredibly helpful but the room had almost zero natural light. There was a small table, but this was small and round, which makes it hard to work at. In addition, the shower had a leak which jetted water directly up into the fan (above the shower) and also dripped cold water onto me. The location was really good, the room was clean and, as mentioned above the staff very friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately the room l booked was not what l booked so they changed us to another room which still wasn’t what l booked staff was friendly 1 roll of toilet paper for 4 nights and no bun liners for a 4 night stay abit disappointing

Didn't stay - had to cancel booking due to corona virus restrictions and you wouldn't refund

I had to cancel my trip to Melbourne due to the current situation with corona virus. You refused to change the booking, citing your non-refund policy. I get you are well within your terms and conditions but this was hugely disappointing given the circumstances. It was booking made via Qantas Hotels and Qantas in contrast was very accommodating with flights booked for this visit, providing full credit for use in the next 12 months. Qantas’ actions are an excellent example of how businesses should act towards long-standing customers in the current circumstances. Mantra’s (where I have frequently stayed over the years) unfortunately is not, and I’ll be choosing to book my Melbourne hotel stays elsewhere in future.

Bathroom was very dated. For a loft room the aircon should be up higher to cool the sleeping area. Staff were helpful. Good location.

Only downside was the free breakfast had to be claimed at a different branch of mantra a few blocks away. Also when I checked out, there was nobody at the reception hence I was never refunded my $50 safety deposit
