A magical place and must stay when in Marrakech

The Angsana Riads are a collection of Riads located in Old Marrakech and there is no other place to stay in Marrakech than here. The room name (Lydines, Si Said etc.) corresponds to a different Riad located in a different part of Old Marrakech, but do not fear, they are all walking distance apart. What sets these Riads apart from any other hotel I have stayed at on the 5 different continents I have visited, is that you feel as though you're staying at a friend's home. There are about 7 different rooms in each Riad, and all the rooms centre around a stunning courtyard, some courtyards have a pool, others have a restaurant, regardless, the courtyards are an oasis, it feels as though we were staying in a spa. Many of the Riads have rooftop terraces where you can read, take a call, or simply have a nap on one of the many sofas. One other wonderful perk was that each room is assigned a cell phone. This allowed us to communicate with tour guides, make local calls, use the GPS to navigate the Souks, or just tether to our phone so that we could use our own. This was a huge help and is not advertised, but should be. Breakfast is included and it is home made each morning for each guest. It is a traditional Moroccan breakfast and will also come with Moroccan tea if you ask, or coffee or other tea, and of course freshly squeezed orange juice. More importantly are the staff at the Angsana Riads. They rotate throughout the Riads and our favourite was Abdeleilah; he went above and beyond for us and everyone at the Lydines. He was kind and informative, telling us his favourite places for food, to buy slippers (from the man who makes them for the King) and where to find all the other treasures as well as the prices we should pay, how to haggle, and where and what to avoid. He helped translate my severe food allergy so that I knew exactly what to say and how to say it in both French and Arabic. Another staff member ensured that we had a ride to the airport for our very early flight and walked us to the car (not all Riads have vehicle access). I have never had such an incredibly personalized experience as this one. I and my partner cannot wait to come back to Marrakech and stay at the Angsana Riads. I cannot say this enough times, this hotel is a must for a place to stay in Marrakech.

We went to the Angsana Riads Collection in June and stayed in the Tiwaline Riad which was about a 1-2 minute walk from the central Riad. Honestly this was one of, if not the, best city break I've been on! An amazing city which has so much to see. The staff in the hotel are amazing, some of the politest people I've met, all very welcoming and proactive to help with anything you need. Just for clarity, there is a collection of Riads in Marrakech, all part of the Angsana collection, closely situated within a few mins walk from the main Riad where the reception, restaurant etc. is based. Each Riad has a few rooms and look to be slightly different themed which is really cool. You check in at the primary Riad then they take you to your Riad/room and show you the route there and back to the reception building. Upon check-in, we were given a phone with a local sim card which we kept for the duration of our stay, which was so useful. It was great for using google maps etc. whilst exploring the city. We went to the Yves Saint Laurent museum which is quite far from the hotel, however the reception staff were great with ordering us a taxi and ensuring the price was pre-agreed. We then used our Moroccan phone to contact the driver, who's number we were given when reception walked with us to our taxi, the driver met us at the drop off point for collection a few hours later, all a very organized and slick process which is comforting if you were concerned about travelling around the city. Whilst also checking in, the staff brought us tea and some pastries which were a lovely welcome after travelling, and we also got to choose a scent for wax melts and diffusers for our room from some samples and we selected the one we preferred the most. This was a nice little touch to personalize the experience. The room itself was huge and all the facilities are all great. The Tiwaline Riad we stayed in was so peaceful. The breakfast in the hotel is great, they bring plenty of choice and its all really good. For evening meal, we eat in the hotel on our first night and the menu has great choice and the food is outstanding. For trips, we did the Quad Biking on the Saturday morning which was genuinely a great experience, defiantly worth doing if you have the time. This was booked through trip advisor as an excursion for approx. 3 hours with travel via a minibus from our hotel, a quad ride into the desert, tea at a small village. Id also defiantly recommend the sunrise hot air balloon which was undoubtedly one of the best trips I've ever done, a genuinely surreal experience. This was an early start at about 5am collection and we were back at the hotel for 9.30 with memories for a lifetime. The Bahia Palace is well worth a visit, and about a 5 min walk from the hotel. The main square, Jemaa el-Fnaa, is about a 10-15 min walk, and its worth a visit, very chaotic with street performers, food stalls and markets. There was plenty of sellers trying to get your attention but all in all its an experience in itself! We got a taxi, arranged by reception, to Bacha Coffee which is also great, very picturesque and amazingly priced for the experience/venue. Dar Dar restaurant is a short walk from the hotel and was brilliant for sunset views. The Angsana Riads are really well located and easy to find when touring the city. An amazing visit, and would defiantly recommend, 10/10!!!

Dear Adam, During this difficult period that Morocco undergoes, and our region in particular, I must say that on behalf of our entire team, your detailed message that values so much our collection of riads, our restaurant Si Said temporarily closed, our services as well as the different activities make us warm! From all of us, thank you very much! Best regards

Challenging if you are sensitive to scented products, I’d stay elsewhere

When we registered for our stay we let them know nothing scented in our room, as one of us has sensitivities to scented products. Thus, our big surprise in checking our room to discover hot scented extremely fragrant oil over a hot candle and a scent that had permeated everything in the room. While perhaps that works for most folks, for someone with allergies, it’s a disaster. We took the hot oil out of our room and extinguished the simmering bowl outside our Riad window. Explaining to the staff why. Only to wake in the morning to find the candle bowl outside our window had be relit. Challenging communication to be sure. And waking with, swollen, itchy eyes and a rash just aren’t what I want on vacation. Sigh.

Dear Sarah I am the director of our collection of Angsana Riads Collection in Marrakech. I have just read right now your request sent '(and received) via Guest Revu on September 10 in the morning, the day after the earthquake that severely shook the region of Marrakech at all levels In this context, our priority has been to organize in extreme conditions, so to speak, the maximum safety of our guests and our staff, arrivals and urgent departures,, cancellations, room rehousing according to the impact of the tremors, electrical and computer failures, not to mention the list of other consequences too long to share This is why you could not stay at Riad Said, to guarantee your full security, and that you were relocated to Riad Lydines. It is for all these reasons that unfortunately your request was not followed and I allow myself to think that you will be able to understand it. I will be at your disposal to meet you tomorrow morning before your departure. Best regards
