Disappointed

I haven’t stayed in too many Mercure hotels but I am pretty sure this is the worst one. This Mercure feels more like a motel than a hotel. The rooms are long overdue for a refurbishment. The corridors stink. The internet is clocking in at 8.5 mbp, don’t plan on streaming your Netflix. Besides internet dropped out completely for a couple of hours in the morning. Now, I don’t think they really care, if you can charge $4-$500 per night, why worry!

Dirty and run down

I booked this hotel as the photos looked nice, it was fairly central and the swim up pool bar looked lovely. When we arrived, we decided to relax by the pool and wait for our room to be ready. Other guests commented how cold the pool was and they were right it was freezing. Coming from the UK, we're used to cold water but this was so cold it wasn't enjoyable. The swim up pool bar was derelict and should definitely not be advertised as a feature of the hotel. The first room we stayed in was terrible and we managed to get moved to another room from the second night. There were long black hairs throughout the bathroom and the shower screen was filthy before we'd even had a shower. The pillows on the bed had stains on and the curtains were dirty and missing hooks which meant that they didn't fully close. Management was nowhere to be seen, all we saw was a guy in a shirt who we assumed to be the manager. He was stood outside a few times a day having a smoke. One night we were sat in the inside bar area with a drink, playing a game of cards. The man at the inside bar was rude and looked like he didn't want to be there. At 9pm we were told to leave as the bar and reception area were closing. This left us no option but to go back our room for the night. This hotel is seriously run down and needs a complete refurb. If I were staying in Alice again, I would look at the Doubletree. We had a meal there and the hotel was beautiful.

Dangerous. Regulators should shut this place down

From day one felt unsafe. Security appears to be low on the priority list. Proof of this came to me when my vehicle, which was parked in the supposedly secure resort car park had the window smashed out and items stolen from the vehicle. Staff did not notify me at all that this had taken place and found out nearly 16 hours after the event had taken place. Car was open with possessions still in for that long. Indifferent staff told me to “suck it up” and ring the police and insurance company. Door to the accommodation block was not secure, nor was the room door. Staff seemed to treat guests as an inconvenience to them watching Netflix on their devices. Remote for TV was damaged. Kettle was dirty. Creepy old manager asked me what I was doing whilst taking a tour of the grounds. Laundry dirty and expensive. Bar and dining overpriced and poorly run. Pool area too small. I cannot believe that this is an Accor property, or a Mercure for that matter. I cannot understand why I have been insulted in this manner. Is it Because I am of Anglo descent? Definitely not worth the price. Is it too much to ask to feel safe and secure in a paid for space? What’s the point of locking your car if some bozo can just waltz in and smash your window out and take whatever they want? Yes, that can happen anywhere, but where was security when this occurred? Resort? More like grub city.

Hi and thank you for your comments. I'm really unsure how to respond to this, so I will apologise for your experience here in Alice Springs and maybe leave it at that. regards

A bit out of town but fabulous pool

Buildings are a bit like a prison block but staff were friendly and well organised. Definitely the best and cleanest pool we have had in Australia so far. Located in an outskirt if town in a casino complex, so not best location seeing local sights. Recommended though.

Thank you for your review and comments. I'm a little confused as we aren't in a Casino complex, so you might be thinking of a different hotel. We are a 5 minute walk from the town centre

OK - but just for one night.

If you are from the UK - then think motel rather than hotel. As part of a tour group, some of us were allocated bungalow style chalet rooms. Perfectly functional for the one night we were there, but paperthin walls. We arrived late evening and it was dark - but even so we could tell that none of us were going to walk outside of the hotel as little street lighting at all - felt unsafe. Evening meal was OK - but breakfast was a bunfight. No system in place for the several coach parties, which led to long queues and food running out. The tea/coffee stations had such long queues that you couldn't reach the food on our shelves behind. I don't think there are many other places to stay in Alice Springs - so good luck.

Hi, I'm just wondering if you have the right hotel? We don't have any bungalow style chalet rooms. Given this I won't respond to the rest of your comments regards Ian
