Stayed for a week as attending a training course locally. My company pays for the trip, however being away for a week wanted to stay in a hotel different from a standard premier inn. This hotel provided that, with helpful staff and a lovely setting. Service was sometimes slow however during this current climate, this was understood. Room I stayed in was very clean, smart and had all the essentials including a nice view over the gardens. One downside to the rooms are the thin walls.

Good location combine dwith good facilities.

The deputy duty manager Alex provided excellent customer services. He took ownership of an issue with another booking made in error. After contacting both the local and central booking teams without a satisfactory outcome, Alex intervened and fully resolved the issue on our behalf.

Ok stay,was handy for studios

The hotel looks beautiful from the outside but we felt it was a bit untidy and ragged round the edges in some places. For instance, the bath robes were rough and there was no light near the door so when adjusting the heating you cannot see the screen and we did need to adjust it because the room was freezing. We had to plug in the extra heater provided, the products in the bathroom were tiny and the bathroom was also small. I upgraded on booking to a superior barn block room, I really don't know what extra this got us.

Expected more from a 4* hotel

The hotel is tired and needs extensive refurbishment. The meeting rooms are old need redecoration. The room was cold and there were 2 plug in heaters which were provided which shows that this has been a complaint before and honestly I did not feel comfortable going to sleep with these plugged in. The restaurant feels more like a canteen, and not somewhere that you would have an evening dinner. I think if the hotel had been classified as a 3 star I would have expected the standard that was presented.

Lovely stay

Booked this hotel as it was prime location for us visiting Warner bros studios. It was between this hotel and one located more toward Watford central. However I am so so glad I picked this. Such a warm welcome from the receptionist (forgot his name!) and made sure we had a lovely room with a really pleasant view. Nice and quiet. Room was clean and a good size, bed super comfy. Even made use of the pool, we had it to ourselves! I didn’t want to leave, me and my partner would return here for a weekend away even without the need to visit anywhere else. Thank you

Staff really nice, but room was not what I booked

Room was not what I booked and the room I did book was not available. Only that I questioned it did I get a refund and breakfast then included which your kind staff arranged.

Room wasn’t cleansed stains on the bedding

The property is fine, rooms as I would expect and most of the staff were polite, if not particularly knowledgeable. When booking I spoke to hotel staff directly and had particularly asked about the pool. I wasn't told we would not be able to use it until 18:45 due to other scheduled use. I had also asked if there was a gym but they did not know (it doesn't). The toilet in the lobby area had no hand tissue when we booked in or about 4 hours later, when I reported it. Motorway toilets get checked much better than this. I bought my wife and daughter a gin and tonic (at considerable cost). We were going to be given tonic from a bottle that was obviously flat, so I bought two individual bottles. My daughter later bought a second drink, we were virtually the only customers. She was then given tonic that clearly came from the flat bottle. When I complained I was told "Oh bless you" but nothing done. The key given to my daughter did not work so I tried calling reception from our room. There was no card indicating the number and 0 was not answered. There was more, and they are all minor, but cumulatively they were just irritating.

Great location for warner Brothers Studio Tour but worst Mecure I've stayed in.

We were in the barn section. The room was freezing cold upon arrival and the thermostat was difficult to use. There were cleft over mould spores on the blinds that had been poorly cleaned and there was a stain on the carpet. Shower water wouldn't drain so had to call for assistance. Was offered a new room as the drain couldn't be sorted then. Once a room was found I had to wait about 30 minutes to have them bring the.key to me, in the end I went to reception myself to get it as it was nearly 9pm. New room was only slightly better and had it's own faults but I didn't bother calling reception again. All in all, very disappointed with the experience.

Really bad service

Average room that needs a bit updating, it’s a mix match of what other Mercures used to be to what they are trying to be, the updates in the room could be visibly seen

Not bad

Everything was a great apart from a noisy room. The ventilation system was very noisy.

Nice hotel but ruined by noisy party and inconsiderant neighbour

Ian H. Couples - 14/03/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

The hotel was lovely and the room was nice. We enjoyed our evening meal in the bar and also the breakfast. However, our stay was ruined by 2 things: 1. There was a children's party on in one of the function rooms. This was on all afternoon and ran until 8pm. It was incredibly loud and there were children running in and out of the bar and restaurant all evening which ruined the dining experience for us and the other unfortunate guests who were hoping for a relaxing stay. The music was louder than the conversations people were trying to have - it was for this reason we didn't try and eat in the restaurant and instead decided to sit on the maisonette level of the bar, as far away as we could get! 2. The people in the room next door to us were very loud and were shouting and had their tv on until after midnight. I appreciate the hotel cannot directly control things like this but we woke up exhausted the next morning. It felt like the walls were very thin as we could hear every word of the many conversations drifting through the wall. Other minor annoyances included: the room was cold and seemingly had no way of warming it up; the corridors were freezing with windows wide open; we had to wait about 15mins to check in because the lady on reception was dealing with another guest who was complaining. As I say, there were some good parts about the stay and the staff we encountered were all lovely and helpful. It's just a shame our stay was tarnished due to the issues above.

Nice Stay

The room was nice however the bed was very flimsy, the mattress was sunken and lumpy. And the waterfall shower in the bathroom leaked badly where it screwed onto the water feed pipe. Also there is a loud boiler above room 53 that we were in which was very noisy and disturbing late into the night. Other then that the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was fantastic.

Not as good as last year

DKingCool 19/02/2020 TripAdvisor review

You can always tell how good a hotel really is when you get there to find you are sharing the hotel with a large wedding party. This happened on or visit. We did not have a problem with the noise (don't mind people enjoying themselves). However, the overall service was not as good as our previous visit (exactly a year before). One example - We asked in the afternoon for a taxi to be booked for 7pm. When no taxi arrived the girl on reception she then booked again which made us late for our reservation - she made up a story about the lines from the taxi rank to the taxi's being down. When we questioned the taxi driver he said this was nonsense and they had not received our booking.

We won a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast stay at the hotel. We arrived Friday afternoon to a polite man at Reception. After check in, we visited Watford for the afternoon. On our return, we had a drink at the Bar- tried to charge to our room but no one had told us that we needed to leave card details at Reception. I went for a jog, the wife went for a swim only to find that the opening times at Reception were wrong. When she eventually swam, she enjoyed it. We went down for our pre paid Valentines Dinner at 8 p.m. The staff were very polite but we had to ask for our welcoming drink, our complimentary bottle of wine even our bread rolls! We were asked if we wanted water, we asked for still water and ended up being charged £5 for a bottle of water WOW! We had a drink in the Bar and went to bed- room was cold but o.k. We had breakfast at 09:30- polite staff, food was fine including cooked to order porridge and poached eggs. We went to check out around 10:30 a.m. The card which I had now registered was not able to be processed so I offered to pay by cash but they had no change! Eventually, my card was accepted and we set off. Ironically, my invoice later arrived by e-mail claiming that I had enjoyed an Express Checkout! All in all, a satisfactory experience but so much could be improved to make it a really enjoyable one!
