food ecellent, room good, beer a little exspensive but the wine we drank was the worst ever and for its quality so bad, we must have been the only group buying wine, shame because the rest of our stay was very good,we use secret escapes twice a month

We read the reviews before we went and they were poor but it was a gift to us and the grounds looked lovely so we went. And to our surprise the room was nice clean an comfortable. We stayed two night and eat on both nights breakfast and evening meal witch we payed for the room was our gift . The food was excellent service was fast and no complaints. So overall the reviews in our opinion didn’t match our stay. And in fact we have booked to go back in July.

Extremely enjoyable!

We had a really good time. Rooms lovely and clean. Staff polite and pleasant. Evening meal delicious. Pool excellent! The only problem was getting a drink in the bar. First time we didn’t bother getting a drink cos we waited half an hour to be served and then our rooms were ready and the second time it took over an hour for the bar staff to take our order, whilst one of the bar men stood polishing glasses. This would not put me off staying again though!

Lovely location

Bad start I particularly requested either a ground floor room or higher if there was lift access. Instead was on the first floor up two lots of stairs. Fortunately I had booked a further room for my daughter and she was able to carry my case up for me and I wasn't at all happy to have to negotiate all the stairs. Aside from that the room was clean and adequate and the evening meal was lovely. Waiter service was impeccable. The grounds have suffered because of Covid but it looks like this will be remedied in time.

Beautiful house and surroundings BUT!

I’m sorry to say that our stay was less than satisfactory. On one of the hottest days of the year we were given an attic room (extremely warm) windows locked shut and only fans to cool the air. The service was slow, took 35 minutes to get a drink at the bar. Staff ware unfriendly and unhelpful. Also didn’t ware their masks correctly ( only covering their mouth) we did complain at reception and given £20 refund. I have a second brake booked in August, I’m hoping that this experience won’t be repeated. I booked my second brake at reception and have yet to receive my confirmation.

Generally all positive, felt though staff have been on furlough far too long, having enjoyed being paid for do nothing for over a year thus were not happy to be working a shift for 20% more. Heard a few people complaining. We had no real issues other than being told on Sunday by reception that breakfast finished at 11 on Monday but it finished at 10am, therefore we only got a limited breakfast. The young lady in the gym/leisure complex is a star however.

Poor service, It wasn't explained to us that our room would not be serviced and therefore we had no towels for our evening shower, no showel gel,. Dirt outside our door. Dog pop around the seating area outside. No one ever answered the telephone when we called from our room Overall a very bad experience

the overall experience was very good, lovely room with both evening meal and Breakfast very enjoyable. Biggest criticism was the outside bar service which was very slow - had to ask several times for service and it wasn't that busy!

Beautiful Grounds

A hotel set in superb grounds but the rooms needed a bit of tlc around the edges. A very good buffet breakfast but I'm afraid dinner reminded me of a night at Butlins. The food was very school dinner...ish and there was not a particularly good choice.

Great treatment, lovely location

We had a wonderful time at Walton Hall; our night stay was a gift bought to us for Christmas. Our only disappointment was that the spa was fully booked for the weekend so we were only able to receive our complimentary treatments. If I'd known it was to be so busy I would have booked much further in advance. When we arrived we were greeted at reception by a friendly man and went to our room. We had a quick walk round the grounds, weather was beautiful so everything looked amazing. Went to check out the leisure centre, the young woman on reception said it was her second day and she was SO HELPFUL! She showed me around both gyms and was so chatty and friendly. I used the gym which was clean, tidy and quiet. Went for a swim, changing rooms not too busy and pool was such a nice temperature. Had a drink at the conservatory outside the restaurant, was very busy and took a while to get a drink - I had to approach a member of staff, however I appreciate that it was busy so didn't mind too much. Went back to room and took a bottle of fizz with us to drink on the steps by the Manor House which was really lovely before dinner. Our starters of duck terrine were delicious, I had fish for main which was cooked nicely but I did think main course was under seasoned and the vegetables were very al dente - was still nice but not perfect. My mum's chicken was a little dry too. Cheeseboard after was really good, and the gentleman who had served us dinner was so polite and friendly and went out of his way to make us laugh and ensure we had a good time. He also wrapped up my mums cheeseboard for us to take back to the room because she was full. Stayed in the bar for a few drinks after dinner which had a good and lively atmosphere. Last orders were 11 and we were allowed to stay there till around 11:45. Went for breakfast at 9am the following morning, nice fresh orange juice and hot buffet. Breakfast food was ok considering it was buffet style and would have been sat there for a while. Also good selection of continental breakfast items too. Went for another swim and then had our spa treatments. I had a hot stone massage and my therapist was again, really friendly, and extremely capable at her job - I had some really stubborn knots in my back and she worked tirelessly to get rid of them! My mum had a body scrub and wrap and she said it was a brilliant treatment. Showered in the changing room facilities by the pool which was fine as the temperature in them is mild and not humid / sticky. Went for a final drink in the conservatory bar and had some nachos which were really good. Went on a final walk around the grounds and managed to walk over the official bridge entrance and through the avenue which was great as we hadn't realised the bridge was closed for restoration when we arrived so thought we'd be driving over it. All in all a great stay, fabulous location, great facilities, friendly staff made it extra special and we will definitely be back for another stay!

Absolutely terrible. You advertise your old building as the hotel wen infact everyone stays in other chalet rooms which are boiling hot and no fans . So had we not brought our own we could not stay . No dinners available as u had too many bed breakfast and evening meal deals on !!!! Couldn’t get served for a drink for over an hr and we stayed there as we wanted a spa experience!! It was like a buttons kids camp in the pool !!!!!! Never again

Beautiful location, very friendly staff

The hotel is at a beautiful location and was so relaxing. We had spa treatments which where fantastic and then lunch at the bar where our waiter was helpful and moved our table so I could be in the shade outside. All the staff made us feel like nothing was to much trouble. Our room was very big for a standard room and was lovely to have patio doors to open in this heat. The bed was massive and very comfortable to. We are already looking forward to coming back

Peace and rest in countryside surroundings. Covid19 impacting visit, but small niggles resolved by helpful staff. Central location for Stratford-Upon-Avon, Leamington Spa, Compton Verney and hidden gem the National Herb Centre - great bistro - more than just a garden centre!

Room ok. Our spa treatments were not booked in we waited at one time 20 mins to be served a drink somebody Just walked up to the bar and got served whilst we’ve been sat waiting at the table like we were told to and not approach the bar. Noisy party next door

The staff were overstretched and though they tried their best there was lengthy waits to be served. The food was excellent, hot and tasty Our hotel room bedside lamp was badly stained and the balcony hadn't been cleaned for months. Apart from this the room was comfortable and clean

Disappointed with the menu

lovedolphin100 17/09/2020 TripAdvisor review

The spa was a excellent experience and the room was nice and clean but the food was disappointing, the menu was not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. The grounds were lovely and are good for walking.

Thank you for your review, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel. We are pleased to be open now after lock down and the limited menu available is designed to provide popular food that pleases the majority. I am sorry this was not what you expected of the Oranges and Lemons Bar and Restaurant however i am pleased to read that you found the rest of your experience to be agreeable. The menu changes frequently as we edge ever closer to 'normality' and we hope that the bistro style menu will be back soon. Kind regards Joanne

Better than might be expected in the Covid era!

Howard N 14/09/2020 TripAdvisor review

We stayed at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel for two nights, mid-week, on a bed, breakfast and dinner basis. The most striking thing about our visit was the courtesy, good humour and excellent service provided by all the staff that we encounted. Although, some compromises had been made due to the constraints imposed because of Covid-19, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and every effort was made to provide the best possible experience for guests.

Dear Howard, thank you so much for your kind review. I am so pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay and found our team delivered excellent customer service. I am pleased also that the COVID measures did not impact your enjoyment. I hope to welcome you back soon. Kind regards Joanne

Shower broken

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

Shahlakarkouti 26/08/2020 TripAdvisor review

Service in restaurant and bar was good, not great food, breakfast was awful, a packed lunch! Reception compensated us only 10% of the bill because none of us were able to shower. It was broken! Swimming pool was nice and warm but facilities very dated.

Thank you for your comments, all feedback is used to assist us in improving the service and when we can we will ensure that breakfast is put back on as normal (or as near to normal as the guidelines allow). Please accept my apologies for the broken shower and any disappointment caused due to your comments. Kind regards Joanne
