Disappointing, and unsatisfactory

The initial room we were given was horrible. I have stayed in better, bigger, cleaner rooms in a travel lodge for half the cost of this hotel or less. The plug in bath had been pulled out and was in soap holder. There was a faulty light in the bathroom and the surfaces were not clean. In the room itself the window sills dirty. There was nowhere for two people to put clothes other than tiny wardrobe (no shelves, no drawers, only hanging) which already contained a battered and bent rickety ironing board. After complaining we were upgraded to room 4 in 16C hall. A completely different building. However we were left to try and find the room on our own. The room was better, and much bigger, but tired and somewhat dilapidated. The carpets had stains. The windows were filthy on the outside, I doubt if they had been cleaned in 6 months. Again nowhere to put clothes other than a small hanging space in a wardrobe, we will be living out of our suitcases. Breakfast the following morning was an completely underwhelming experience, with poor, matter-of-fact service, and luke warm food. To end it all, when we got back to our room that evening we found that there was a disco for a wedding reception going on immediately below our room which didn’t finish til 1am. All in all, a very poor stay. Not good at all. Will not stay at a Mercure again.

Poor value

Our room was too small. The windows could not be opened. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. Toilet seat hinge was broken. At my car club's gala dinner on Saturday night, I and many others ordered roast beetroot and goats cheese salad but were given a Caesar salad with no explanation. Decaf tea and coffee offered but not delivered.

We had a fabulous stay here many years ago (spa break) so when we were invited to a wedding at Walton Hall, we were delighted to return! The Check-in process was easy enough and the staff were very friendly and helpful, even thought the place was extremely busy! We were pleased to find that this time our room was in the hotel - the room itself was absolutely fine! Spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed! Bathroom was spotless with lovely fluffy towels! The food - both at the wedding and at breakfast was spot on! The staff were great throughout - all very accommodating and friendly yet still professional! The wedding itself was class! The venue is just beautiful and a great backdrop for photos! Parts of the hotel and hall need updating but that didn't detract from a great weekend! Thank you for a lovely stay and for helping so many of us make some fab memories!

Nice bedroom but bedside light fixing broken, bulb not working in standard lamp, old looking bath and no bar of soap, even after asking for one.
