Terrible service, small afternoon tea for the price

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

Leah C TripAdvisor review

After reading the reviews sitting here after having afternoon tea the reply’s are saying that it isn’t the normal quality of service here, well clearly the managers arnt watching over their staff or have not been told of these reviews as we were not once offered drinks or asked if everything was ok during our afternoon tea, I had to go over to the lady who was on her personal phone at restaurant reception, being the only people in the restaurant terrible service. Waited 30 minutes for the food even though it was booked in, going for our treatments now let’s see if they can make our journey worth it !

Ground floor on the second floor!?

Fransch TripAdvisor review

Booked with Secret Escapes (DBB) at this Mercure Hotel. Beautifully situated on an extensive estate. At check-in it turned out that our booked ground floor room (due to the dog) could be reached down the stairs or elevator (from the ground floor) and had a view of approximately 10 meters further wall of 2 m high. I've experienced a lot of crazy things, but the ground floor below ground level is strange to say the least. This was what Walton Hall called the ground floor. Without much effort, our room was changed to a real ground floor room, a nice spacious clean room, which could be reached without stairs or elevator, and which, according to Walton Hall, would be on the second floor!? But other than that I can only be positive: friendly, helpful staff, good food a beautiful garden for a very reasonable price and once again beautifully located, far from civilization.

We where on our anniversary I had a gum infection so was not feeling well we went down for our dinner my wife had a glass of wine £9:00 Myself had a pint of lager 4:50 as I was leaving the restaurant the lady wanted me to settle the bill she charged my card £28:00 my wife asked how much it was so I said her £28:00 as I was feeling unwell and had to go to bed I said I would query it in morning on checking out I did That and was sent to the restaurant to sort it out they could not find it so the lady took my details and said manager would ring me with the refund that did not happen I was charged £14:50 to much so Either someone has had that money rather shabby

Was booked into the Manor but didn't realise there are no facilities in it. IE bar or restaurant have to walk to new building for that. Asked to relocate to main building which was done with no problem

Chaotic

Louise Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

I booked myself and several family members into Walton Hall for my 60th Birthday, we were joined by other family members who booked separately. I requested our rooms were close together only to find mine was on a different floor altogether. I booked us into the restaurant for a celebration meal and had huge problems finding anyone who could deal with my requests, eventually I thought I had arranged things for the evening and the meal started well until we got to the main course. As there is only one menu and it contains sandwiches etc. I requested a limited selection of mains be offered to make things easier, however I was presented with a different meal altogether to the one ordered and one not on our reduced menu, the double cheeseburgers only had one burger and one of the curries had a tablespoon of rice at best. This was all rectified and to be fair I wasn't charged for the incorrect meals but it wasn't ideal for a special occasion. The wait staff appeared overwhelmed in a busy restaurant. I had also asked to pre order wine and once a wine menu was located it was e-mailed to me I ordered 3 bottles which did arrive but the menu I had been sent was around £7.50 a bottle out of date and not in my favour. Some one in our party ordered more wine which came as a glass and not the bottle requested. It took several attempts to get the bill right, with items missing or added incorrectly although we got there in the end. We did all enjoy ourselves and found it quite funny really but I guess other people might have been more upset by these issues and they shouldn't have happened. I chose Walton Hall for this event as my parents no longer with us had an apartment here when it was a timeshare place and as a family it holds many happy memories but I would have liked not to be in splendid isolation and for it to have gone a bit smoother after all I had reached 60.
