Having spent a few weeks at the Novotel Ipswich I was expecting a similar experience with it being of similar standard even given the circumstances we are trying to work in. Not so. Dinner menu very poor. £12 for a portion of lasagna and two pieces of garlic bread, not even a bit of salad, in fact no salad on the menu at all !!!! No starter or dessert. Novotel had a limited menu but had something like 4 starters, a couple of desserts and a fair choice of mains including steak. All served in the room but a good service. Breakfast was a bacon roll (you could have a sausage bun but not both), croissant, couple of cheese strips, small child size carton of juice and an apple that was soft for £10. Ipswich choice of full hot breakfast or continental. The down side to the hot breakfast was that it was served in Styrofoam container and the toast used to go soft. Bar closed - Ipswich semi open so draught beers were on. Liverpool £5 for a can of bottom of the tree lager from a cabinet in reception. As for the room. Thought I would have a suit. The best part was the bed was comfortable and the TV's were good although for some reason some of the Freeview channels did not work. Opened the cupboard doors, one fell off as it came away with the hinge. The kettle switch kept cutting off and as for the bath robe I reckon they were for possibly size 10 women. I am big but not massive. It just to say met in the middle with the sleeves at three quarter length. Considering this was a suit, which was a nice layout it was definitely not value for money. My first choice was the Novotel in Liverpool but it was fully booked. I should have stayed at the Crown Plaza over the road. I spend a great deal of time away and it is very rare I ever complain. In fact I reckon in the last 10 years I have only done it 3 or 4 times. It is not a habit, unlike some people, that I have. I always say you look at what you pay and then see if it was value for money. I do not feel this was. All hotels are having problems at the moment and there are still overheads but if you want customers to come back after this lot lifts then you need to look after the guests you have. Novotel Ipswich I would always go back to and recommend. There was no point in saying anything to the staff, or the couple I did see. I was not offered the complementary drink on arrival and when I checked out I was not even asked if I had a pleasant stay. All in all a poor experience.
Great location, not such a great stay

We had to stay away from home due to a gas leak and no central heating and we wanted a restful night during such stressful times, what we got was far from that. The first superior room we had booked had dirty towels, a broken phone and no bath even though we requested a bath through booking.com. We were changed to a second room with no apology just a 'that's no good' from the receptionist, then the second room had no working heater, a man came out and told us it would be on in ten minutes when it was apparent the system was not working and not lit up! We went back to reception for a third time and got moved to a third room which wasn't superior, far smaller and had no view unlike the one we had booked. We rang and complained and were told it would be written up and we'd get a part refund! We were then kept awake by noisy guests above and had to call reception three times to sort it out. After a night of absolute stress and disaster, we got a full refund and finally got an apology from reception for the horrendous stay we had experienced. Not the standard we would expect from a hotel like Mercure and especially not during a pandemic.
Another perfect stay

Booked a cheeky few days....the only breaks we have had have been at the Atlantic Tower and the staff have made us feel like we have had a little holiday each time

Booked during tier 2 Covid restrictions, moved to tier 3 after booking in for our 1 night stay so breakfast changed from stit in restaurant to take out (which was pretty good though) Requested quiet room but placed in room by junction in corridor by lifts so quite noisy between 11pm and 12:30am with people returning to rooms. I found it Ok but my wife wasn't happy with the room temperature as it was cooler than typical, in fact coldest hotel room ive ever stayed in ! Staff good to excellent including personel call from manger prior to stay.
Room doesnt match the description which shows in the pictures
