From the phone call made before our stay to check our reservation, the welcome on arrival, the check out staff were warm and welcoming. We book the same rooms each year and they are lovely. Clean, comfortable, spacious and quiet. Breakfast choices are good.

Lovely hotel in central Exeter v special to stay in at Christmas time

Staff need training , heating needs addressing , food needs attention .

Companion04228804122 Friends getaway - TripAdvisor review

Very very disappointing . Although the hotel is in a good location , I wish I had explored other options . The reception , bar and restaurant was intolerably cold . I mentioned it on both evenings I stayed , the reply was “we are cold too”, no explanation nor apology . The restaurant staff are stretched too far in terms of what they are expected to do and results in being resigned to underachieving . We asked for a drink only to be told by the bar person that she was busy and would serve us when they were free , on the second night a similar response , “I’m busy “. They appeared to be performing basic tasks with no care, no concern and no training . The food is edible but not hot , not exciting and only almost serves what it says on the menu, but badly . In contrast to the public rooms the bedrooms were warm, clean and comfortable. Sorry but it’s not good enough and I don’t need to stay again .

Stayed on a Saturday night the shower took like 10mins to get warm and the bathroom and carpets in the room are very warn, bed wasn't the best sleep in very uncomfortable bed!! Light bulb missing on one side off the bed!! Kettle very dirty looked like someone had been sick in it and was a shock, very warm in the room turned heater off and after like 3 hours the heater was still so hot like they temperature thing was a dummy one!
