Within the NEC complex - just!

On line check in did not result in a speedy check in at the hotel - took longer than most check ins. Hotel is a very long walk from the Resort World Arena - part of the NEC complex. The hotel advertises itself as a 5 minute walk from the NEC. This would depend on which hall and whether you can exit form the back of a hall. It was 15 to 20 minutes from the Arena; 25 minutes from car park 3 I paid for what i thought was a conveniently located hotel not for being a 'Styles' but did not like the decor. The rope pattern on the carpet could eb confusing for someone partially sighted or suffering from dementia and the mural and dark red sofa and curtains did nothing for me. Restaurant was highly impersonal; food OK; price good.

Comfortable and clean

I stayed one night at this hotel as I was attending an event at the NEC. My welcome and support at reception was very good thanks to the lovely gentleman at the desk. My room was clean and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable. My only negative observations were the pillow was too soft and squashed to almost nothing, the bathroom was a bit tired with stained grout in the shower and the second floor corridor smelled quite strongly of urine. I expected a little better for £128.

Had to pay extra , not good

I booked a hotel stay, from a gift card ( which was hotel and breakfast) when I arrived at the hotel I asked if breakfast was included as it wasn’t on my email, they said no, you will need to pay extra, after trying to find my voucher, which I couldn’t, I accepted that I would need to pay, I said I only have cash is that ok and they said yes that’s fine , do I went upstairs, got to my room and tried putting the ac on nothing was working, so I opened the window , next morning I went down for breakfast and I said I need to pay for breakfast, yes card , I said no I was told I can pay cash , oh they said and played with the tillfor 5 minutes then turned to me and said ok cash , breakfast was cold cooked breakfast, certainly not worth £11.50, on my way back to the room, there was a lot of work going on and there was a sign up by the stairs , not reception, saying there was ongoing work and no heating or ac , how can you take payment , charge extra and not have any heating or air flow system, not happy

To clarify, we don’t currently advertise air conditioning as it’s something we’re in the process of installing, which is why there may have been some work going on during your stay. Regarding breakfast, I’m really sorry about the mix-up. It sounds like there was some confusion around your voucher, and the experience you had with paying in cash definitely shouldn’t have been that complicated.
