I regularly stay near the airport if I have an early flight so when I travelled to NZ last week chose the Pulman as my experience with other Pulman hotels has been good to great. This room was cold with inadequate bedding and non functional air conditioning. The tap in my bathroom sink was broken and felloff into the sink when I tried to use. I wont be staying here again.

Excellent check in experience. Room service credit card system down and phone would not connect to reception or guest services ...the phone in the room was dead. Checked out 4am and the guy on guest services who checked me out, clearly knew i was airport bound but dids not offer the shuttle even though he was outside loading bags into the shuttle 5 mins later whilst i waited for an uber.

Clean rooms and easy check-in. But for a Pullman, I was surprised that there was no concierge/door person to assist with getting luggage in and out of the boot, and guiding guests in to the hotel. No offer of can we assist with anything on the way out either. The restaurant area is right near the entrance and not pleasant enough to justify the prices in the menu. This made it harder to immediately spot the reception desk. Better to amble down to the Mascot Central Precinct for a bite. The carpets are thick in the hallway so best not to be dragging a heavy bag. Lastly, glad I was travelling solo as the bathroom is really exposed to the room with one door useable for either the toilet or shower, not both simultaneously. Such a strange design given the lack of walls for the bathroom area. The products (soap, body wash etc) are overly fragranced snd smell like men’s cologne and the pump heads are not long enough for ease of dispensing. They provide 2 small water containers and I am surprised that instead there isn’t a water dispenser and bottles that can be refilled for each room/level. Good bits: very clean room, robes provided, spacious enough room to open the luggage bag up. Overall it didn’t meet my expectations for a Pullman but for one night and proximity to the airport, it did the job.

Overall, the stay had some real positives, but there were also a few areas where the hotel felt like it had simply stopped at “good enough” — particularly the breakfast setup and the rather unfortunate food-covering/storage arrangement. Arrival & Room Arrival was fine, although there always seems to be a wait at reception, with often not enough staff available. There is also no self-check-in option, which many hotels now offer and would certainly help during busy periods. The room itself was fantastic — spacious, a great layout and with colourful, fun tea and coffee cups that gave it a bit of upbeat energy. The high-end tea selection was a lovely touch, as was the complimentary water. However, for a Corner King room, I was surprised there was no coffee pod machine. At this level, I would expect to be able to make a proper coffee in the room. We specifically chose the hotel partly because of the ability to work outside the room. Unfortunately, the Club Lounge was closed/being used for a conference for two of the days, which significantly reduced that benefit. Breakfast — and the rather tragic food-covering situation Breakfast was a bit of an endurance event. There was a very long wait to be greeted, followed by a very harried staff member. I gave my name but couldn't remember my room number because my husband had left earlier with the room card. I was sent back to reception, where I explained the situation again. Reception then explained the breakfast-card system: no handwritten breakfast card, no breakfast. Fair enough — once I knew the rules! I returned to breakfast, waited again, and was eventually taken to a table. The breakfast itself appears to be almost exactly the same as it was 1–2 years ago. There is very little imagination or variation — essentially the standard hotel breakfast offering. The chefs were working extremely hard making eggs and omelettes, and credit where it is due: the coffee was beautifully made. The fruit cabinet, however, consistently looks a little tired — particularly the large chunks of rather lacklustre melon. The large communal bowls of chia seed/coconut also become messy, with food regularly ending up on the shelves and staff or guests having to clean it up. But the biggest issue is the toaster/bread/spread setup. The serving area is essentially a couple of tables positioned right by the lifts, covered at night with black tablecloths. And not elegant black tablecloths — more “we've just covered the conference tables because someone is coming tomorrow” black tablecloths. It looks temporary, cluttered and frankly a little tacky. It is one of the first things guests see coming out of the lifts and it really detracts from what should be a polished hotel foyer. This needs a proper solution. Either create a permanent, modern and classy breakfast serving area, or install a contemporary privacy/screening wall so the equipment can disappear from view when not in use. At the moment it gives the impression that someone thought, “We'll just throw a cloth over it — that'll do.” It doesn't. Bar & Common Areas The bar area has now been filled with overflow dinner tables — basic black Formica-style tables — which means there is very little atmosphere or welcoming space to sit and enjoy a drink or meet friends and family. This is particularly disappointing because one of the advantages of staying at a hotel like this is having attractive communal spaces where you can work, relax or meet people without having to sit in your bedroom. Signage & Attention to Detail The signage around the hotel also needs attention. The lifts would benefit from professionally produced, clear signage directing guests to Reception, the Gym and Club Lounge. At present, there appears to be one rather lonely piece of sticky-taped signage pointing towards Reception, with very little indication of where other facilities are. These are small things, but collectively they make a difference. The hotel feels as though some of the finishing details have simply been overlooked — particularly the food/toaster storage, foyer presentation and wayfinding. I also wasn't completely sure whether the airport shuttle was available to hotel guests or whether it was primarily a tour bus. Some clear signage or information would make this much easier. The walking distance to the airport, however, is excellent. Housekeeping — Outstanding One area that deserves a very strong mention is housekeeping. The room was immaculately clean throughout. The soap, shampoo and other amenities were high quality and had a lovely fresh scent. This was genuinely stand-out service and exactly the standard you want from a hotel of this level. Overall There are some excellent foundations here: great rooms, excellent housekeeping, good coffee, quality amenities and an incredibly convenient airport location. But the hotel is let down by the small details — particularly the breakfast experience, lack of imagination in the food offering, communal spaces being taken over by overflow tables, poor signage and, most of all, the rather spectacularly unglamorous “black tablecloth over the breakfast equipment by the lifts” situation. It feels less like a hotel that needs a major overhaul and more like one that needs someone to walk through the property with fresh eyes and ask: “Does this look polished, welcoming and intentional?” Because at the moment, in a few places, the answer is unfortunately: not quite.
