Do not stay here without checking the heating is now working! We arrived late Friday night after a long flight and were really looking forward to a warm shower and our bed. It’s currently -5 in the night so we were freezing when we arrived. After checking in, we went up to our room ready for an early night. They gave us the disabled room which we didn’t mind, but it was absolutely freezing! I mean you couldn’t sit in the room without your coat on it was that cold. My partner went down to speak to reception to explain that the room was freezing and the heating in the room wasn’t working. The manager came up and moved us to another room on the 5th floor. The room was beautiful. However, it was FREEZING again. So again, down he went to speak to the manager who then decided to advise that none of the rooms had heating that worked and hadn’t for a few weeks! The manager came up with a small heater that had seen better days, the leg of the heater actually fell off. It was never going to heat the entire room. There was no prior warning of the heating not working and no forward thinking of putting the make shift heaters in the room prior to start warming the room up for guests. Who wants to stay in a hotel in December with no heating?! Please don’t get caught like we did. We were lucky and managed to get a refund and move to a new hotel.

Reasonable hotel, very comfortable bed. Tired looking carpet with lots of stains/marks. Room heating was not working, just circulating cold air; when I rang reception they informed me this was a hotel-wide issue and kindly brought up a small heater (if they knew there was an issue, why not keep the heater ready in the room) which was not very good at keeping the room warm. On second night, when I tried to order room service, I was informed there was no room service available as the chef was off. Not something I’ve come across in any other hotel, so was a bit surprised by this.

Very cold room with wet walls

We are not the type to complain so we just lived through two very cold nights which defeated the purpose of staying in a hotel. We dreaded retiring to our rooms at the end of a very long conference. The best we could do for ourselves was to ask for an extra blanket while stating that our room was very cold. But the receptionists just smiled and agreed to give us an extra blanket. I think they should have enquires why our room was cold. It felt like they were aware and gave us that room on purpose. Spent nearly £400 for two frosty nights. Not going to do that again…for sure. Sorry Mecure, this was a disappointing stay.

Breakfast was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms modern, clean, well lit and pleasant though lacking on storage and space (no drawers and my suitcase wouldn't fit in the wardrobe as the wardrobe door is the same slider as the bathroom door so had to be out and in the way all the time in a small room) Lifts were slow - you have to press the call button for both (they aren't interlinked) Good location for exploring Edinburgh
