The room was very old and dated. The rooms are over priced. I paid another 400 CNY per night to upgrade to a suite. Not worth it. The breakfast was also bad. The staff was very slow.

I stayed at the Grand Mercure Beijing Dongcheng during Dec 2019. I chose this hotel because of its close proximity to the BeiXinQiao subway station as well as the wonderful restaurants nearby. The room I had was spacious, equipped with both a shower booth as well as a bathtub. It was also equipped with a safety deposit box which I made full use of. The lounge area in the room was a wonderful addition. The only tiny issue I encountered was on the day of my departure, the concierge ordered a taxi for me, but because of limited parking space and traffic jams, the taxi was unable to enter the hotel pick-up point. I simply had to pull my luggage to the main street to enter the taxi. Not a huge problem at all! Overall, I would stay at this hotel again when I visit Beijing.

As usual, check in and check out was smooth and quick. As usual, I could seat at the bar without anyone asking me if I needed something. Room (6th floor) was clean. Wifi was good. A little bit cold in the breakfast room but good variety of choices.

A fair stay near the Palace

The Hotel is a bit aged but well located near the historical attractions. No check in, check out and breakfast available at the Executive Lounge. Platinum status was well recognized and the best part of this stay was the friendly and constant assistance of Mr Lei ZHANG from the Executive Lounge. Mr ZHANG has displayed a very high degree of enthusiasm towards his job and I can not thank enough for his dedication to his services. He is a true asset to this hotel and to Accor, and he will probably be the only reason if I will return to this hotel in the future. The food and beverage selection at the Executive Lounge was fair in relation to the popularity. The assigned Suite Room was comfortable but required a fair bit of walk from the lifts. Breakfast at the Main Restaurant was a joke. The female associate was standing at the front only to mark off your room number, neither trying nor willing to provide any assistance. You will struggle to find a clean table to sit down, and by the time you do and you walk away to get some food, you will find some strangers sitting at your table when you come back. And the food is, also, below the average Grand Mercure standard. Overall a fair stay for a two days business trip. I look forward to hear any feedback from the Hotel Management regarding my concerns.

I'm a regular guest at this hotel and originally chose it for its excellent location (very close to the subway for getting to work and also very convenient for bars, restaurants and tourist attractions, if you happen to be staying for leisure) and because of a recommendation from the manager of the Swissotel, which is currently closed for refurbishment, where I was also a regular visitor. The fabric of the place is in good condition and the rooms are large and well appointed and there is a very nice lobby bar/cafe (Cafe 101) where you will get excellent service from the likes of Fiona and Sonic, who always greet you with a smile and a friendly word and go out of there way to make you feel at home. The best thing for me though are the people, who are a great credit to the new general manager, Billy and Steven, who runs the front office. On the reception desks my go to people are Grace and George who are unfailingly friendly and accommodating and are always happy to offer advice and help (on this occasion they helped me arrange to get a parcel sent from the hotel to my company office in Gansu province). I should say that I mention Grace and George in particular as I know them both from their time at the Swissotel, but everyone on the front desks are great, so it really doesn't matter who you go to. If you are lucky enough to have a room or Le Club Accor membership that gives you access to the lounge you will meet Annie or Billy, who take it in turns to look after the Executive lounge. Both are lovely people and will really make your feel welcome. The personal touch I referred to in the title of this review was never more clearly demonstrated than on my last visit; I always struggle to find a bath robe in Chinese hotels that is big enough and on one of my previous visits I had mentioned this to the staff at the Grand Mercure. On my first night of this visit I was greeted by Steven, Sonic, George and Annie who had arranged to get me a large robe and came to the lounge to present it to me. As if that were not enough, they also brought me a couple of bottles of beer and macaroons with my Wechat profile picture printed on them! I have never come across such a gesture in any hotel and I was and still am, really touched and grateful and really want to thank everyone involved. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending this hotel for business or leisure and I look forward to returning again very soon

We love how the hotel is nicely located and there are a lot of restaurants, groceries nearby. Rooms are big and even with the extra bed, we had a lot of space. Door to the Bathroom cannot be closed. I think someone push the door too hard. Front Office staff has a hard time in communicating in English although there is one guy who can speak English clearly. and He was nice too.

If I have to stay at an Accor property in Beijing, I choose Grand Mercure Dongcheng. The only other halfway acceptable Accor choice is the Fairmont, which I prefer if I'm staying on business, but which I avoid if I can, since the location is deep in the dullest quarter of the CBD and the level of service is not quite impressive enough to balance that out. The Grand Mercure Dongcheng has an ideal location, right beside a subway station (Beixinqiao) and in an interesting neighborhood; the service is warm and inviting; and it has a decent executive lounge. To compare it to the Fairmont again, I do miss the lobby bar and Gold Floor lounge there, since Grand Mercure Dongcheng lacks a credible bar and the executive lounge is not quite up to the level of Fairmont's lounge; the largest suite at the Grand Mercure Dongcheng is also comparatively tiny, but, you know, what can you do about that?

There were some parts of the wooden wall peeling off, and the sliding door the bathroom couldn't be locked. The shows on the cable TV were limited. The bed was comfortable. There was a toilet but no bidet as we have been accustomed to in good hotels of same star rating. We had to keep asking for a third bath towel and dental kit daily for our daughter for almost the entire 1 week stay. To sum it up, some parts needed better maintenance so we can only give the highest rating of "satisfied".

The room was very hot. You tried to make it right with a fan. The windows would not open. A miserable night.

3rd time staying on the property I think, seemed like less English spoken at the front desk than before, manager was great and solid english when onsite, internet was sub par at the least, extremely slow had tolog on almost everytime I used it, was here on business so I needed it, had to sit outside the elevator on my floor a couple times to use it

I was initially given a less than satisfactory room where the bath room doors aren’t able to open properly as well as damp wall. Provided the feedback and I was being provided with a few options for replacement room. Despite the hotel being full, the front desk ( lady manager) was very patient and tried to help me get my room. There was a few choices and she took the initiative to show us to the various room and allow us to decide. I thought this was good gesture as well as great follow-up service. Left a good impression the moment I check in.
