You need to review access control policy for contractors. Thankfully I am relatively easy going and this didn't happen to a female room occupant. Certainly didn't expect this at such an hour. Next time I will be sure to set the latch rather than rely on the DnD light.

I stayed at Pullman for 4 nights in their Classic Queen Room overlooking the Harbour. View was lovely and got lots of morning sunshine. But overall, I felt disappointed. Positives Although Pullman overbooked our room, Gerry was very professional and arranged alternative accomodation at Novotel Oasis for a night, and also offered complementary breakfast across the 5 nights. This was greatly appreciated, and the breakfast had great variety. Gerry also connected our bookings at Pullman so we did not have to change rooms, again really appreciate this service. Housekeeping was very good, and the staff were friendly. Bath was wonderful and a nice size. Car parking was also good, nicely secured garage close to the lift. Generally, the week-day reception staff were very professional. Negatives I was forewarned the classic room was unrenovated, so my score does not reflect the general wear and tear of the room itself (which clearly is in desperate need of an upgrade). We had issues with the shower, which fluctuated significantly in temperature while showering which made showering unpleasant. From very hot to cool. The alarm clock next to our bed had been set to go off at 1am, so the first night of our stay it went off and woke us both up. When we discussed this with the reception staff the next day, they did offer to reset this but the damage had been done. I would expect a 5 star hotel to check for this, as it hindered our sleep significantly. The room did not come with a laundry bag, we had to request this. There was only 2 washing machines and 2 dryers, so there was long wait times. The dryer also didn’t dry a load properly so had to be re-done a second time. This happened to the people before us too, I think these machines are due an upgrade as it was chaotic. I also think you should be offering laundry services, Novotel offered this, and dry cleaning. And they also had laundry baskets! The telephone had a red light which would not come off due to previous voice messages being on the machine. When we discussed with the staff, they sent someone to look at it, and his only solution was to unplug it at the wall! What about the next guests? We struggled with room service, the system requires confirmation of phone numbers … but if you’re an international traveller you may be using an Australian SIM card which means your phone number is inactive unless you turn roaming on (which costs you money). Novotel again didn’t require this and was much more user friendly. The first morning we had breakfast, the table we were seated at was given to another group while we were still sorting our food. No cutlery in the rooms and the TV is far too small for the room size. The pool was not heated … at least not warm enough to swim in. I would expect this from a 5 star hotel. There was also no hot water Jacuzzi that I could see. Overall, I think sending us to Novotel was a great gesture, but greatly showed the things Pullman was lacking. Even the breakfast, although very tasty and great variety, wasn’t as good as the Novotel (which provided fried eggs, crumpets, wider selection of fruits etc). This is easily the most expensive accomodation we are staying at during our trip and overall, I feel quite let down. When you’re charging premium prices, you should be delivering premium services. I’m not being overly harsh and if it’s a job well done, I’m the first to say so (the girl who checked us in was incredible, as was Gerry), but it really isn’t good enough. I would check what Novotel is doing and try to replicate it, as they are 10/10. If only they also had ocean views.

Overall good, comfortable room with appropriate amenities. The daily cleaning was good. Breakfast variety was good. Didn't appreciate having to pre-pay at check in (unusual for this type of hotel) and the concierge was useless (the person was clueless, still don't understand how management puts this employee in the role with not even a basic knowledge.

Nice hotel but checked in at 4pm to find the room wasn’t even close to ready. Some drinks vouchers and a room upgrade helped but the room not ready is unacceptable

I paid an exceptional high rate for a room that was “up to 4 people” just to be told that having a 3rd person in the room would have an additional charge. Even though I was charged an extra fee, I was only given 2 towels.

I had many bites on my arms and legs after my stay at Cairns Pullman. I had a number of people comment that they thought they looked like bed bug bites and that I should alert the hotel. I emailed Cairns Pullman on Monday and attached photos. I had a reply saying that a team member would be in touch, but was not contacted. I sent a follow-up email, but still nothing. The bites were extremely uncomfortable and itchy for many days. Disappointed in the response- or lack there of- I expected better from Pullman.
