Disappointed but a lovely city

Booked in for a stay travelling back from the Rhone. Also booked in for a meal in the restaurant. The parking is convenient and just outside the walls of the city. The hotel decor is intentionally old but the actual interior looks like it was done about 15 years ago. I was very disappointed by the meal. The serving all seemed chaotic the sommelier asked us what sort of wines we like and then didnt follow up when we took his recommendation (which I really did not like and did not bear resemblance to what we had said we liked). There was a sparrow pecking on the bread basket which was then handed around to guests of the restaurant. I was not impressed by the food although this may have partly been down to having eaten in a Michelin star restaurant the night before. The cooking preference was ignored and generally I didnt think the food was very good quality. I found the prices very high especially for the wine. We had to really complain a lot before we were spoken with but by that time I was already too tired and unhappy. I will not visit the hotel again and this has negatively impacted my view on Accor hotels.

I can’t say enough good things about this experience. Location is perfect the staff is sweet and accommodating. The castle was stunning and I really did feel like I was in a dream. Pet friendly as well and I was picking up to flame point Himalayan kitties so it says a lot. I can’t wait to go back and bring my husband. I could’ve done that hike around the castle forever.

We stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary and enjoyed it immensely and what made it so special were the staff - professional, warm, friendly and so welcoming. Lots of personalities, often lacking in 5 star hotels. Shout out to our sommelier, she was a hoot! Safety procedures were good and everyone was following the rules, plus they have very grand rooms to allow it. Only niggle, I thought the dinner was a little bland and predictable, although good.

Excellent service. Everyone very friendly and helpful. We had a little difficulty finding the private parking lot. Very busy at 14.00 pm when everyone is coming in to register. The drivers were very helpful, but a bit overwhelmed with the guests. Registration was easy. Our room was lovely. Very clean and neat. The breakfast was excellent and well done. Except for a rude guest who cut ahead of us at check-out and did not practice social distancing the stay would have been perfect. But the hotel cannot be responsible for rude guests.

We stayed two nights to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary and the hotel was advised of this before our arrival. The welcome was good and the private parking and shuttle was much appreciated - that said, we were not advised of the 20 euros per day charge and only found out when checking our bill on departure. The hotel is in an excellent position within the town walls and tucked away from the madding crowd- with its own delightful gardens ideal for aperos. We had a tour of the hotel by Jean-Jacques who was lovely. We had a superior room that had lovely views of the garden and ramparts - the room was sufficiently large but not capacious with a reasonable ensuite. We noted that there was no Illy coffee machine in the room, contrary to the website details - instant coffee sachets for a 5* hotel is unacceptable. I popped down to Reception to explain this but they said that only suites had Illy machines. I apologised and suggested that I had made a mistake, but on returning to the room and checking the website again (by the way, the wifi is excellent) - I was correct but the reception staff would only accept this by me showing them the website with the info in view. Within minutes a Lavazza machine arrived but later found that it leaked and it was replaced speedily thereafter. COVid19 safety steps were excellent and all staff were considerate. We loved having pre-dinner drinks in the gardens. On Sandy's birthday the room was decorated with balloons and we were presented with a bottle of champagne - a nice touch. On the second night we reserved a table in Le Barbacane Restaurant to celebrate our double anniversary. We were amazed that there was no dress code as some diners wore beach ware or even track suits. The staff there were outstanding, especially Hugo, Marina, Bozar & Fabrice - who were particularly engaging and efficient. The various courses certainly sounded inviting but a couple were disappointing- the sea bass was rather tasteless, the duck breast tough and sinewy and filet de beouf was so miniscule that it should not have been described as the main ingredient as it was surrounded by shredded beef cheek - all very tasty but insultingly small. The star of the show were the oysters in jelly - absolutely gorgeous. We mentioned the duck to the staff but were advised that this was normal for duck breast - which we know is false as we live in the Lot, famous for its duck. On checking out - we were charged for 4 breakfasts that we had not taken.

Indulgent experience throughout

A personal welcome and historic introduction by Jérome was only the first token of appreciation for this overnight stay in Carcassonne. The stunning views from the room, the subtil music ambiance in the garden and the very attentive service, from the terrasse, the restaurant and the breakfast team make up a very refined and enjoyable stay.

Overall my stay was memorable. The reception staff were professional and courteous. The La Barbacane restaurant was top class. It was disappointing that there was no balcony light that could be switched on at night. Also tet glass table on the balcony was not secured to the base with the result that it nearly toppled over and broke when my lightly leaned on it. I pointed this out to a staff member but nothing was done about it. Overall a very pleasant stay at the hotel and I would return again.

Something Very Sorcusk

From arriving in the private car Park to leaving the staff and the experience was first class. As a couple travelling around Europe the visit was only really a one night stop to rear up for our next venue, Carcassonne was an outstanding find. This is the only hotel anyone should choose with the Fort, the food, service and room were beyond belief. We shall return.

Rooms under the roofs accessible by two lifts and several stairs and steps staff who did not react despite a problem with my wife's ankle the only answer is « it is the rooms that you have reserved » The staff have claimed that the hotel is full I think because we booked through Booking After this experience never again the Accor hotels I will talk about it around me and on Social Network

We loved our stay and the suite we had with fantastic views and big terrace. Furthermore we liked a lot the service and staff, all of them were helpful, friendly and polite. The only thing we did not like that much was the restaurant, even the service was good and the food was of good quality, in our opinion the wine pairing was a bit short for the plates which we tried and the price even being a one Michelin Star restaurant was a bit high in comparison to other Michelin’s which we have tried and the quality was not so high.

Always excellent but so friendly and helpful.

This was our seventh visit and everyone in the hotel from Adélaïde and Jean-Philippe at the top to the restaurant staff, those in reception, the bar and the backroom staff now treat us like members of their Hôtel de la Cité family. At last an hôtel that makes us feel at home. We cannot recommend this hotel more!!!

Dear Madam and Mister Snow, We would like to thank you again for your feedback ! It is always a pleasure for us to welcome you in our hotel. You will always be welcome ! Looking forward to welcome you for your 8th visit Best regards

A really beautiful hotel in the medieval citadel. The service here is exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble. They emailed us beforehand to ask if we wanted them to arrange a taxi for us to transfer from the airport to the hotel (its only a 20 minute drive away) and arranged this for us. They brought our luggage up from their private car park to the hotel (there are no cars allowed in the medieval city), and gave us a guided tour of the hotel before bringing our luggage to the room. The hotel isn't cheap but its certainly worth every penny. The Michelin starred restaurant in the hotel (La Barbacane) is fantastic and lunch there is actually very good value. There are lots of good places to eat within the city walls and its the most beautiful place to wander around its cobbled streets. The tour of the Chateau Comtal and walking the ramparts is worth doing as the views are terrific. Within easy walking distance from the walled city there are other really good places to eat and drink. We loved La Trouvale, great French cooking and reasonably priced. Also on the same street (Rue Trivalle) is the truffle restaurant Barriere Truffes. A great experience with a wine tasting before you eat and truffles with everything but not cheap. Be sure to book restaurants rather than walking in as they are often full in the evenings. During the day, its definitely worth walking over the old bridge into the other part of Carcassonne. There are lots of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and the main square is lovely to sit and watch the world go by. Its also lovely to walk through the town down to the Canal du Midi where they do trips down the canal. Carcassonne is the perfect place for a short break and if you want to experience a bit of luxury then the Hotel de la Cite is definitely the place for that.

Dear Madam, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience in the Hôtel de la Cité. For us it is a pleasure to read that you had a memorable experience here in our hotel. The fact that each of our rooms is unique adds a special and wonderful atmosphere. We are glad that you like the Medieval City. Indeed, it is a place to visit. By walking down the streets, you travel throught the ages. We will share your comments with all our collaborators who participate every day to make this hotel incomparable and the stay of our guests exceptional. Our team is looking forward to welcome you again among us Yours faithfully.

Sillybillybad Couples - 29/03/2019 TripAdvisor review

We have been using Accord Group Hotels for several years now and this is without doubt the best one we have ever stayed in. Our recent trips have included Sofitel Le Grand Ducal in Luxembourg and Sofitel Lisbon Liberade but this hotel surpasses them. Firstly it is in the ideal location for exploring the old cite, secondly it oozes history but more importantly it does the simple things calmly quietly and very efficiently. For example providing an orthopaedic pillow from the pillow menu on request, providing extra coffee pods for the in room hospitality tray and replenishing bathroom toiletries without being asked. Without exception all staff we encountered were superb, charming friendly and helpful and doing so in a very genuine manner that actually made you feel very welcome. Our rooms were cleaned to a very high standard and the public rooms immaculate. Breakfast was superb lots of choice to cater for all tastes even for us as vegetarians. Particularly enjoyable was the daily fresh fruit salad and the variety of freshly squeezed fruit juices. Hot food as well as cold food and omelettes etc and freshly cooked eggs that you ordered from your waiter. Our one disappointment was that as much as we would have loved to try the restaurant for dinner we did not simply because in our opinion there was a non existent choice of main courses for vegetarians. This is something we often encounter on our travels. That having been said it is the best hotel we have ever stayed at in over 40 years of travel.

Dear Guest, It is a pleasure to read how much you have enjoyed your stay with us. We have been touched by your lovely comments on our hotel and service. Indeed, the location in the heart of the medieval city of Carcassonne and the design of the hotel contribute to offer an experience out of the ordinary. It is a real pleasure for us to work in this place full of history as well as revealing its anecdotes. We are delighted that you enjoyed our breakfast. The buffet is mainly composed of local quality products, pastries and bread made by our pastry chef and baker. However, we feel very sorry that you did not taste our Michelin starred restaurant. We do have different choices of main courses like risotto. During your next stay, do not hesitate to ask us about it. Our chef, Jérome Ryon, will be happy to prepare a dish that suits you according to the season and the ingredients at his disposal. We will share your comments with all our collaborators who participate every day to make this hotel incomparable and the stay of our guests exceptional. It is always a pleasure for our teams to know that you really enjoyed your stay among us. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again soon to make you discover our gastronomic restaurant La Barbacane. Sincerely yours

Lovely hotel in great location with very friendly helpful staff EXCEPT FORThe restaurant menu was terrible, despite prebooking we were given the worst table in the room even though the room was almost empty. The waiters were patronising and rude.We walked out without ordering as there was so little choice from an unbalanced menu and we were not offered any alternative. We had a fabulous meal 50m away at half the price it would have cost in La Barbacane.
