Worst Mercure experience ever

LucasP1117 Couples - TripAdvisor review

Worst Mercure experience ever. Let me start by the only good side: the breakfast is really good. Problems: - When I arrived it took me sometime to realize that I was in a hotel. The person in the “reception” (a table in the middle of the lobby) was educated, but not well trained. For some reason the person is not wearing any identification, always with a headphone and speaking less than the basics regarding all information needed. - There is no bar or lounge. I asked for a bottle of wine and it took some minutes to the reception guy to understand my request (low level of English proficiency from the staff) and there wasn’t any bottle available. - The room is not nice and very outdated. - The air-conditioning system wasn’t working properly. - In one day, my wife and I arrived around 9:30PM and alongside 5 more guests we had to wait outside for many minutes (zero degrees) because there wasn’t anyone in the reception. We got inside only because another guest went down to the reception by luck. After many more minutes I tried to complain to the receptionist, but the guy (unidentified) told me that he was sorry, that he was in the 7th floor solving some issue and that he was alone. Don’t stay at this hotel! Worst experience in many years! Avoid this low level of experience.

After a very satisfactory visit a month ago, I was extremely disappointed to arrive about 7.00pm on Friday 22nd November, only to find our room was not fully ready. Reception immediately offered another room but that was worse as rubbish was still in the room. The third room offers also still had rubbish left in it and there was clear evidence that someone had been lying ion the clean beds.. As I booked this night on previous experiencence I was not happy, especially as it was a booking that had to be made due to the Eurostar strike, with no possibility of travel to London that night. I am willing to use the hotel again as it is very convenient for travel, the staff are friendly and the breakfasts are lovely. I just hope the housekeeping problems can be resolved.

Tidy smart small room suitable for an overnight stay

Mercure by name but not by nature. It felt like an independent hotel that had been taken over by the chain and was slowly going through a rebrand. The room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very good with a lovely rainforest shower but frosted glass partitions were all that separated it from the main bedroom. The air conditioning did not work properly so I slept badly due to waking up from overheating - I run at a high temperature so like my rooms cool. Having said that the staff were friendly and the location is ideal for central Paris sightseeing or catching a train from Gare de Nord station.

I arrived at the hotel and grab my key. It was late (approx 8pm) and I went upstairs to my room. I was greeted with a dirty and unmade bed, towels on the floor and rubbish all over the place. Return to reception and was offered a single bed (even though I paid for a double). Unimpressed considering I’m a loyal member.
