The hotel’s situation is excellent for Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est but sadly it is below the standard we expect of Mercure. The hotel appears rather run down and shambolic. On our return visit there was no kettle in our room and I had to ask twice for it. The bathroom in our bedroom had only a curtain not a door. This is not acceptable for a hotel of this standard.

My boyfriend and I recently came to Paris on our engagement trip. This trip was ruined and overshadowed by an issue that we had at the hotel due to a staff member. First of all let me start by saying the housekeeping is fantastic, location is great and it is a generally good place to rest your head on an evening with few amenities or facilities but a great bog standard hotel. However, upon check out we were informed we had not paid for our breakfast. When we checked in the lady told us the breakfast was included in our stay and we were very satisfied to hear this - I had assumed I had booked it and forgotten or we had been upgraded for being limitless members and having good loyalty. By the by - if someone who is directing you in your stay tells you something is a part of it you believe it to be true. We even clarified this with her asking ‘really?’ And she said yes. So we were extremely surprised to find that upon checkout Amelia ( the staff member in question for rudeness) was billing us for breakfast we had just had. We explained we had been told at the beginning of our stay it was included and how we had just used the facility quickly taking only a coffee and small bit of baguette because we didn’t realise that it was a paid service so we didn’t really make the most of it because we had assumed it was just included in our stay. She said ‘well it’s not’ quite rudely and then proceeded with ‘how would you like to pay/ if you don’t pay I will get the police’. I was really particularly shocked by the attitude that went alongside these statements , coming onto us like we had on purposely not paid and there was a sheer lack of understanding from this particular staff member. All it would have taken is a ‘sorry that this happened to you the check in staff must have been confused, but unfortunately you still need to pay for the service’ there was no sorry in the backlash we received at the end of our stay it was just sheer rudeness and lack of customer service. I did ask to speak to the on duty manager as her attitude was appalling and she replied ‘there is no manager’ to which I said very well I will be writing my thoughts to the head office team. I do believe this needs investigating further as it really put a dampener on our trip and I would not be inclined to encourage others to stay at Mercure Gare de Nord.

I have previously stayed in many Accor hotels including several other Mercure Hotels. Unfortunately, this Mercure hotel did not match up with previous experiences. The room was significantly smaller than the rooms in other Mercure hotels I have stayed at. So small, that the doorway to the bathroom was partially obstructed by the placement of the table and chair. There were three electrical sockets in the room but no USB charging points. The display on the air-conditioning control panel was broken so there was no way of knowing what it was set to or what changes I was making. There are two elevators in the hotel, both of which are very small. The display in one is broken, constantly displaying '9' (there isn't a 9th floor!). Neither elevator required room card activation, so in theory anyone could wonder in off the street and access all floors of the hotel. The breakfast selection was limited. Much more so than other Accor hotels I have stayed at. In summary, this hotel does not deserve to carry the Mercure brand. Accor should seriously consider re-branding this as an Ibis Budget or selling the hotel.
