Rooms are old and dirty, nothing like the photos. Staff are unhelpful and rude

Do NOT recommend! Staff are incredibly unprofessional and rude. Rooms themselves are old and dirty - nothing like the photos. Our bed was completely collapsed and sagged when we got in it. The slats underneath were broken, which staff would have easily seen when changing the sheets. We found chips and hairpins in the groves of the coffee table. The bathroom was dirty and the rooms smelt. We raised the issue with the older woman at front desk the next morning and she made us feel awful about it. She had so much attitude, we showed her the photos and she said ‘is that it’ she basically told us to get over it, she said the rooms were just old and she wasn’t moving us. She even named the news station who stayed there the night before (which I’m sure is a breach of confidentiality) saying they didn’t complain about the room (such a weird thing to say). The receptionist at the Mercure was absolutely awful it was the worst experience I’ve ever had and I’ve stayed in many hotels.

Regarding your concerns at reception, we want to clarify that you were asked to leave the property after being verbally abusive towards our staff. We understand that you were unhappy with the room type allocated, as you had requested a free upgrade to a three-bedroom unit, which belongs to a different unit class. While we regret that your stay was not as enjoyable as you had hoped, we do hope the rest of your time on Magnetic Island was a pleasant one. Beds were very comfortable and the main bedroom bath was amazing. The reception staff could not of be more helpful and friendly before and during our stay , thank you. Having access to a rental car available through reception was wonderful too 😀

Stayed here for 2 nights in March 2025 in an Ocean Front, 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. It was light, airy, spacious, clean and absolutely delightful with a beautiful balcony to watch sunrises or while away the afternoon. Booking, check-in and check-out was seamless. The pools are good - it is really nice to have a choice - though the pool in our complex (building 4) wasn't working. We used the spa, Balance Beauty and Massage, at Peppers next door and either walked to meal options or catered for ourselves in our full kitchen. Great location to ferry, shops and accessing the remainder of the island. Special thanks to Rochelle, at check-in, for her friendliness, warmth and help; and for the owners of the apartment for sharing their little bit of paradise.

Misleading pics/description of unit. Will stay again, but not in a unit managed by Jeff. Great location & view!

Unit we booked and paid for was not what we were given. - stayed in 4301. This management team uses the same photos for all unit listings across all booking sites regardless of number of rooms and beds. Management confirmed they don't take photos of the individual units for listings. This complex is an Accor property, but if you don't book directly through the Accor website, you are likely to receive one of the older sub-standard units. I've stayed in this apartment complex MANY times. Most units are individually owned and managed by a few different companies or privately. The complex is in need of some maintenance and some units are tired, but you mostly know what you are getting by the room photos and reviews on individual units. This is the first time I have received a unit drastically not as described and the first negative review I have ever given. We were treated very poorly on checkout after explaining the cleanliness and safety issues, and requesting a partial refund which was denied by Jeff, however was given by Airbnb Support.

Staff were very friendly. Convenient location. Apartments seem to all be different, each may be owned individually? One bed apartment was a good size but fixtures and furniture are dated and in need of repair. Everything looked clean but on closer inspection a bit dirty / greasy. Floors felt grimy. Needed to clean all the dishes and glassware before using them. Bed was made with a sheet but no quilt. Wardrobe storage filled with vacuum and old electronics. No pool towels provided. Pools are quite small and busy. Could get better value for money elsewhere.
