I want to preface this review by saying that I don’t write bad reviews preferring to keep disappointing experiences to myself, but this one has left me no choice. Our experience at the Grand Mercure apartments in Magnetic Island was just awful. Do not believe the images on their website. There may well be apartments like this on the property but that is not what we received. Service was great on arrival, until we relayed our concerns and then service turned very frosty. We were told our apartment had a beautiful view of the mariner however on arrival in our room, we noticed a dirty big dirt pit in front of that view. The room was very dirty and looked like it had been decorated in the late 90’s. Not like the website at all. When we relayed our disappointment, we were offered another apartment that was basically just as bad and told that we could only stay in the second apartment for a few nights before we had to return to the first terrible apartment. Stains (I think was blood) on cushions, dust on skirting boards, dead bugs in the light above our bed, rusty bins, shower glass that was so caked with soap scum it looked like frosted glass, broken aircon vents, broken lamp, mouldy stained pillow inserts and to top it off a BBQ that had its own eco system growing in it. We informed the staff that we would not move back to the first apartment for the last two days of our booking and requested a refund. After being given the run around regarding the refund we finally received it over a month and a half later and only because we chased it. The whole complex is tired and the units need serious attention paid to them. There are very mixed reviews for this complex and from what we experienced I can only imagine that we were given two of the worst rooms in the complex. Do not believe the images on the website are what you are booking. New management are blaming old management and private owners of the apartments….the problems are now yours, time to fix the issues so no one else has the disappointing experience that we had.

Peaceful stay, would highly recommend. It was my first time on the island and I picked this accommodation due to the stunning views from the apartments. I stayed in 5202 with my friends and the apartment had 5 single beds and a queen bed with an amazing ocean view so perfect for a big booking. If you are staying in the 5 block please be aware that the sound of the ocean waves can be quite loud so if you are a light sleeper make sure to bring ear plugs. Massive thank you to the two wonderful receptionists Rochelle & Belinda who took time to tell me all that the island has to offer and advised me what to do. I also met twoof the housekeeps Naomi & Clare who very kindly showed me to my apartment when I got lost and kept me laughing along the way. Mercure has very friendly,bubbly staff and they really keep a positive upbeat atmosphere. Thank you mercure for a great stay, I will be back !

Horrible Stay - rooms are unsafe!

Safety and privacy are fundamental expectations when staying at a hotel, unfortunately this place lacked both by giving us a room that could not be securely locked. We are angry that we had our kids in the closest room to the door and were not told that the front door could be easily unlocked and anyone could have entered. One staff member sent viciously rude emails to us after our stay and she was the one who put us in the insecure room without our consent. Unfortunately, management are completely incompetent; still no action after escalating my safety concerns 2 months ago. Very disappointing!

This place had fabulous views, comfortable beds, and was quite spacious. It had a balcony that overlooked the pool and the sea. Quite modern. It a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday night as our 2 bedroom unit had one room at the front and the other over the car park. We were on the second level. It’s a gated place so it was secure. Bathroom were quite good. There was a washer and dryer. Lounge area. Dinning table inside and out and a bbq. The only downfall was the cleaning. My sister and I spent 30 mins cleaning, sticky tomato sauce off the coffee table , wiping down the kitchen table that still had milk spots and sweeping the deck of long black hairs. The bathroom was ok. We wished they had spent time cleaning the window that looked out the deck. It was so cloudy my husband wiped it down. The oven settings had all been worn off. Overall we loved being there. But over our 3 week holiday in QLD, we stayed at cheap hotel in mission beach and that place was so clean. It just was disappointing.

Thanks to Richelle and Belinda for their attentive service during check in and out. Beautiful unit, even better view and the allied rock wallabies who let me know they prefer apple slices to carrots won me completely. Great central location.
