Great time with family and friends for a wedding. Rooms need a bit of TLC, and cleaning needs to be more thorough. More staff needed for the bar. Drinks expensive and not a great selection.

Pleasant stay in the Trent Valley

We have stayed here at Newton Solney before. We had two good nights sleep, it was very comfortable. To be fair the Hotel itself is looking a little tired. The food was not brilliant, but the Staff were very friendly, kind and helpful. On the whole we enjoyed our stay at the Newton Park Hotel.

Interesting hotel based in an old manor house type building. Expect wood panelling, stain glass windows and maze like layout. Hotel rooms however were modern and spacious with a comfortable bed and feel. Room price was very reasonable but restaurant / bar food too expensive. Short walk to a couple of nearby pubs was in order.

Beautiful building inside and out

An old building, so if you like new build then this isn't for you. If, however, you like a bit of character, then this place is a charm! Parked across the road from the sheep grazing and had a lovely stay here wandering around the gardens behind the hotel. Only complaint is that I'm super allergic to dogs and there had obviously been a dog in my room at some point because I was itchy. I took an antihistamine and was fine, and I feel this was more my problem than the hotel's and allowing dogs to stay is one of their selling points for many.

Pretty terrible

The only positive I can give from our stay is that we were here for a friend's evening reception for their wedding and they enjoyed themselves. Room. Cleanliness was lacking overall. The temperature is the room was stifling. This must have been known as there was a fan in the room.. something more needs to be done than leaving a fan. We had a small child with us and yet we were given a room in the back of beyond, up a few flights of stairs. Bar service. At the event itself there were two younger members of staff on the bar. Who seems like they would rather be anywhere else in the world than there. The lad would huff and sigh after each order. So much so that it became a talking point! The young lady on the bar was very rude. I asked if there was wine available to order by the glass. Answer 'yes'. Okay what kind do you have. Answer 'red and white'. Okay is it just house or do you have a range. Answer 'yes'. Okay can you tell me what types.... Customer service definitely lacking here. At an event where you are looking to get a fair amount of custom on the bar, placing your best staff here would be beneficial. It's actually depressing me having to relive this for your review. There's more to say, however I left a review when I stayed here for my friends wedding back in may and nothing was different. Nothing.

Good stay needs updating

The stay itself was very good, the breakfast had a good selection. However the hotel was very tired, needs massive improvements. The rooms were like something from the 1970’s, the bathroom stunk of something very musty and had a broken bath outlet. The carpets dirty, cobwebs and dirt at the windows. The bed was however very comfy and clean so that was a plus. Staff were excellent.

Hotel was clean and inviting, wasn’t much information given at reception and couldn’t tell who was staff due to dress code.

I regularly stay at Mercury hotels and have been pleased to write very positive reviews for hotels in the Group at Stratford upon Avon, Banbury and London Bridge in the recent past. Unfortunately, I am unable to do this for the Burton hotel. On the positive side, our room was spacious, the bathroom was good and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel has some unique features and with a little investment and effort the period charm could be a major selling point. The young lady who handled check out in the morning was engaging and professional. On the negative side; Our room had a nespresso machine, but no coffee pods were available, The young man on bar duty was incapable of saying please or thank you and seemed ‘put out’ every time he was asked to serve a guest. During check in we were not offered the complimentary drinks vouchers for silver loyalty members and had to request these. Our account was also not activated, so when we tried to charge drinks to our room, we were told we had no credit. Despite the Accor Covid pledge, I was very disappointed with the standards employed. When asked to sign for our meals and drinks at the bar, the only pen available was being chewed by the young lady running drinks from the bar to the restaurant. When it was removed from her mouth it was handed straight to me to sign off the tab. This is clearly unacceptable. The bar area was dingy and lacked any atmosphere. Finally. The fire alarm went of at 05:00 and again at 09:00 and 09:10. I appreciate that these events do happen, but the manager / duty manager appeared to lack any form of leadership or the ability to communicate coherently. All in all, this is the most disappointed I have been in the many years of using Accor hotels. It is such a shame because this hotel could and should be so much better.

Small room window was warped therefore impossible to shut thankfully it was warm . Only able to get in bed from one side therefore had to climb over each other. Told vet busy in restaurants had to eat early or later but restaurant was not busy. Poor menu told no pate to start as had been no delivery. Guests came in after us and given pâté! Grounds and building nice but not well maintained Had romantic package website indicated dinner included but wasn’t and paid £70 for 2 starters 2 burgers and a dessert with one drink each very expensive for what it was. Not the treat we were expecting on our wedding anniversary

This was a stay our daughter paid for and we booked for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Room was superb, hotel originally owned by William Worthington the brewer, typical estate country house. Due to times we have lived in last 2 years property needs money spending on it, however, staff superb, breakfast excellent, will certainly return, well done everyone in these troubled times.

Rude staff at the hotel

Kelly Friends - 26/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Up on arrival I was created rather coldly. The staff member looked bored and fed up. He was unhelpful when I encountered an issue with payments - it is not stated or clearly explained you do not accept contactless phone payments via phone app and you must produce the card you used to confirm the booking. The room was standard. I was disappointed to add to my reservation that I needed an iron and ironing board on arrival, when calling the front desk I was told they would bring it “when they could” with no specific timing, when I asked would it be in the next 10 minutes or next hour I was told sternly “when they could” which in unacceptable when given no other explanation. The showers are incorrectly set up, there is an “eco” setting, a standard setting and a cold setting. The cold and standard setting are the opposite of each other. I suggest testing them if using them. At 23:45 I called reception to ask when the wedding music would stop as the room is not sound proof from the function room below, the music made the floor vibrate. When I asked the question to reception about when the music would be turned off I was laughed at and told “only another 15 minutes, it’s a wedding” - a tone I didn’t appreciate at that time. If I had known there was a wedding and the room I had booked was directly over the function I was not a part of I would have cancelled the booking. Upon leaving I went to hand in my keys, I wasn’t asked how my stay was, I was just told to put my keys in the box in front of her. She didn’t even say goodbye as we left. On a positive note, when I called up the generic line to add to my reservation which is a switch board not operated by the staff at the hotel, the woman I spoke to went above and beyond in helping me.

Village located, spacious, friendly, need for refurbishment adds to the charm

LeClubMember99 10/09/2021 TripAdvisor review

I have stayed here annually for decades, primarily because the precise location suits my purposes. The hotel, particularly the exterior including the gardens, is in need of refurbishment, but they ae dependant on whatever income they can get from events such as weddings, and from accommodation. The staff are friendly and helpful, the hotel is airy and spacious, the cooked breakfast is one of the best I have had in my worldwide travels. Choose the Garden View rooms as they have recently been fully refurbished. The staff coped well in the context of Covid, my only comment is that serving utensils for cereals, juices etc. were shared - and no guest or staff wore masks . One thing they abandoned a few years ago is the choice of kippers for breakfast - please bring them back!

Dear LeClubMember99 Thank you for your review. Always a pleasure to read that you have enjoyed your stay and I hope the same for many years to come. best wishes

Mark S 30/08/2021 TripAdvisor review

I really enjoyed my one-night stay at this hotel which has a lot of characer. In fairness, the place would benefit from some investment but it was a lovely location right next to the village of Willington set in lovely countryside. The Hotel has a lovely garden at the rear and it was great to walk around there on a sunny day with a glass of wine. There are lots of period features including wood-panelling and some of the grandeur of the past. The food was excellent at both dinner and breakfast - and there was plenty of it! The reception team was very friendly and helpful - Toby and newly-recruited Kristina(sp?) really took care of me. Mark and Jose on the bar were brilliant as were the other members of the catering team.

Dear Mark S Thank you for your lovely review. Really pleased to say that our team made your stay a great one. We look forward to welcoming you in the near future. with kind regards

Needs a refurb

TonyR1726 Family - 10/01/2020 TripAdvisor review

Overall, we enjoyed our stay (and have been here before). Excellent location. We had a good room, and the facilities were generally good. We like it, and will almost certainly come again. Negative points were - restaurant was closed on the Friday evening we arrived, it's in desperate need of a refurb - worn stair carpets, faded ceilings and so on. And we had to carry cases up three flights of stairs to our room - no lift or porterage. But good value at the price.

Not what you expect from a 4 star hotel!!

Vacation17779520545 Business - 13/12/2019 TripAdvisor review

On arrival, I was greeted at reception by a member of staff who was standing in for his colleague and confirmed he would need to get someone to check me in. The receptionist arrived and check in was painless. I have booked an upgraded room. I was allocated room 110 and was directed to the first floor via the stairs. The carpet was threadbare on the nosing of the stair and was well past its lifespan. The corridors are tired and the carpet has also seen better days. The room itself was disgusting the grey doors are damaged and scratched, the room was freezing, the sofa in the room was stained with all sorts and this was supposed to be a upgraded room. I returned to reception and raised my concerns, I was then allocated room 109 which was better. The check out in the morning was painless and all staff very pleasant. I ordered room service which was prompt and the food really nice so no complaints there. I have stayed in many hotels and this is by far the worst hotel by way of condition I have stayed in.The hotel is tired and requires upgrade in the main areas as well as the rooms, no idea how it is a 4 star hotel.

Dear Vacation 17779520545 Thank you for your comments they are very much appreciated. I have taken on board the points you have raised. Kind regards Wilma
