I booked a stay for your Mercure hotel in Burton on Trent. This was the first time both myself and my new partner had booked a night away together. As it was a special occasion I booked the Superior Double Room which included breakfast. As we arrived we went to our room and the room was not as advertised on your website, the room we were in appeared to be one of your privilege double rooms. The bathroom was not as advertised and there were no bath robes as described and no slippers. The bath panelling in the bathroom was hanging off and there were holes at each side exposing the floor boards. The toilet was so close to the bath you had to sit on it at an angle to even use it which was bad enough for me at 5ft4 but my partner is over 6ft so it was basically impossible. Myself and my partner booked into the hotel restaurant for an evening meal but whilst waiting decided to have a few drinks at the hotel bar. The bar stocked no diet drinks at all and only had full fat varieties which was very disappointing as I only drink diet. For our evening meal both myself and my partner ordered the steak from the menu. This was around £25 per person, When our meal arrived it was the most awful steak I have ever encountered. Neither myself or my partner could even cut into it due to the amount of fat and gristle on it. It was completely inedible. I spoke with the female member of staff who was very lovely and very apologetic and arranged for an alternative meal. Whilst waiting we ordered some red wine from the menu only to be told they had ran out of it. So we had to order a slightly more expensive one. Around an hour and 15 minutes later our replacement meal arrived which in fairness was very nice however after waiting nearly 2 hours to be fed I would have eat anything. Finally when myself and my partner went down for breakfast in the morning we were told that they had run out of sausage and black pudding. Again this wasn’t a big deal but seemed to be a cumulation of disappointing things during our stay. Overall I am deeply saddened by the whole experience and feel that there where so many things wrong with my stay. I am usually not one to ever complain but I feel that the hotel needs to improve its standards.

Great staff, only moan is breakfast, as we walked in restaurant we were told no vegi sausage, black pudding or mushrooms.

We was put in a twin room that the heating was full on and could not be switched off , we was given another room which was not much better , I would have thought because of the Coronavirus , our stay would have be treated in a far better way as it was almost empty , no offer of a reduced rate for breakfast or evening meal , the next evening we stayed at holiday the room's where air conditioned and breakfast included , and the price was much cheaper , the hotel seamed to be in the archives and should not be connected with the name of mercure , very disappointing.

I have stayed here a few times and am well aware that it is a hotel that needs a real bit of updating in many rooms and the upstairs communal areas. First night wasn't great but the second much better. The breakfast met my expectations.

Although we enjoyed our stay, and the staff were lovely. The booking process through a 3rd party didn't make that pleasant to book in the first place. Completely understand that has nothing to do with the hotel, but just to make you aware. I expected a little more from the standard of the rooms after looking at the photos on trip adviser and the hotel website. Our room was still relatively clean, but just really outdated. There was wall paper peeling from the walls and the bathroom just seem really outdated, which at first appeared the make the room fell unclean.

Comfortable bed, 2nd floor room you had to wait half an hour before you can flush the toilet again, no drawers in the room, only had one bedside table, inconsistent breakfast (porridge and omelettes). Friendly and helpful staff trying to do their best in a tired Hotel

I stayed at the Mecure Burton Upon Trent for one night to attend a colleagues retirement function in Burton Upon Trent. It suited my needs fine as all I really needed was a bed for the night. The staff were all very helpful and polite and the bed was comfortable, all I needed really.

Nice setting, could be a great venue but as soon as we got inside the place felt as though it could fall down around us. Staff were great and lots of services but major tlc needed. Horrendous smell in the corridors and stairs needs addressing.

I loved the hotel itself, it was really well set out and I loved every moment of it, the dinner on the night and breakfast in the morning was absolutely lovely, hats off to the chef! The staff were also so caring and if it could be possible that this get’s read and passed on but Danielle, I believe her name was, that did some serving behind the lounge bar and checked us in to our rooms on arrival was perfect, she treat us really well and I couldn’t have wished for someone better to check us into our room and serve us on our night stay! I would love to thank her over email if possible!

We arrived at 1.30pm the room was not ready but we knew this, we had a meal and drink in the bar, an hour or so later we asked if the room was ready which the receptionist said yes, when we go to the room the door was open and the room was not ready, dirty towels on the bathroom, we went down and told the reception, had another drink while we waited, a little while later the actual maid came and said the room was ready, the evening meal was nice. The room we were in was nice but noisy, there is a fire door outside and there was a lot of comings and goings all night as the staff had to put notes under the dots to let us know that the kitchen was flooded and therefore no breakfast. It was a bit of a disaster to be honest, we were refunded for the breakfast but in the circumstances it should have been more as a good Will gesture. I await your response. Julie L.
