Bar understocked. Bar service slow. Bar man served other people before finishing with us. Bar prices were high. Wine per bottle prices extortionate. £30 for Malbec. £8 on line.

Receptionist and breakfast staff were lovely, room was spacious and bed was clean. Hotel was dated but possibly in keeping with the age. Lovely old features. Dinner service was worse than poor. Food was decent but over priced. Private entertainment interrupted dinner twice to ask for charity money. Asking for a donation was no problem but to come around twice when there was only 10 people in the room was too much. Lesure facilities need updating desperately. I had to change in the disabled toilet and walk through reception in my swimming costume.

Unlikely to stay again. Better alternatives close by.

On our arrival we had drink in the hotel bar after asking for a cocktail which the bar staff had never made before to find you didn’t have all the ingredients to make it, I then asked for a glass of Prosecco only to be told there wasn’t any chilled, I ended up with a glass of white wine, it just got more disappointing when entering our suit to find it run down, mould in bathroom, not all the lights working and the coffee machine not working, out dated tv service. As for the Spa Leaks throughout with buckets and towels everywhere catching the water, pool changing rooms unhygienic, broken lockers and very run down also found the gym to unhygienic, smelly and condensation on all windows, no antibacterial spray. Evening the same disappointing over cooked, the smallest steak I have ever seen about 3ounce in weight. Would of complained to staff but no one around on check out, reception not staffed. These our just a few complaints, over priced, disappointing stay, would not stay again.

Check in was good and quick and I was allocated my room. Unfortunately the bath tap in my room was constantly running and when I looked and tried - there was no way to stop it. Upon phoning customer services they came to look, then went to find the maintenance person. Maintenance had left for the day and they said if I was unhappy I could move rooms. Yes I did move rooms as who wants to listen to running water all night. I was moved to the cupboard room (my personal name for it as its so small) which was freezing. I eventually got the radiator going and it warmed up a few hours later. The curtains were hanging off the rail in places in this room, and the surround around the bath tap hadn't been cleaned in a long while as it had the pinky/orange scum/mould there but I wasn't going to attempt to change rooms again. I went to the bar to order some food and a drink but there was no one serving at the bar, so after waiting for a while I went back to my room and ordered room service. My meal and drink came and unfortunately after they left I realised they hadn't taken the bottle cap off of the tonic water and there was no bottle opener in the room, so back they had to come with a bottle opener. The food here is never quite what it says on the menu it will be but nothing earth shattering or to complain about. No one had removed the tray when I opened the door in the morning to head off to breakfast. You used to do such lovely breakfasts when you cooked to order but unfortunately since moving to the buffet style it isn't great. The waitress does her best to make the best of it, but it is poor really. It's a shame when I first stayed here 5 years ago, the food was good, the facilities weren't too tired but now that's really not the case. It is very very tired and the cleaning/house keeping is not good. Over the years I have stayed here less and less (I have to stay in Kidderminster every week for work) and now only stay here if it is the only choice available.

The rooms are distinctly tired. Scuffed furniture, rusty radiator, peeling paint inside and out, bare plywood replacement door for the bathroom. Really disappointing and not particularly cheap. Drags down the Mercure brand. Staff were good as was breakfast.

Our booking issues (booked a reception and got no confirmation email, chased twice with bookings, still was not correct when we arrived). Upon arrival reception seems confused by us being a 4 and that we had a D3 booked. We have asked 3 times for a D4 and had confirmation of it as well. We were given the Coronet Suite as compensation which was lovely and felt really special. Breakfast was fab, the room Coronet was lovely, the facilities were great value for money and we will be back.

Very good for families, bit rough around the edges and food could better

We’ve stayed here a few times as we have family in the area that we visit. We love the size of the family room, it’s very good for our little ones. The only downside to the room is that the bed could be king size (rather than double) and there is more than enough room. Also, one of the lights wasn’t working. It rooms could do with a freshen up. We had a meal in the evening and sadly this was substandard. The quality of the food needs to be looked into. The manager was very good though and refunded the cost of the bad meal. In fact all the staff at the hotel are very nice. We used the swimming pool while we were here. The staff were excellent, letting us use the floating aids for the children as we didn’t bring our own. We would visit again but I’m not sure if we’d eat at the hotel.

Last minute decision to try an alternative to our usual stop over hotel. Check in was as expected. Leisure centre poor quality changing rooms and shower area, no shower shampoo, staf said we have run out and haven’t had a delivery. Noises all knight very poor quality experience.

There was a party that we were not notified aboutvtyatvwas very loud and our daughter was unable to sleep. The bathroom was filthy and there was thick black mould around the room which affected my husband's asthma. These was also a thick layer of dust on the headboard. Tried to report this to reception and there was noone there.

We couldn't get heating to work in our room. Reception sent someone up who turned a dial in the radiator. Still didn't work after this. Staff were friendly, however when we went for breakfast there was no one around to take our order. After 10 mins we had to go to reception and ask if anyone was serving. Staff did apologise
