The Mercure Ayr is in an excellent location, within easy walking distance of the seafront, town centre and local attractions. The hotel was also spotlessly clean throughout our stay, and every member of staff we encountered was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful. They really are a credit to the hotel and deserve a much better environment to work in. Unfortunately, the hotel itself is looking very tired and is in real need of investment. The décor throughout the public areas feels dated, with stained carpets, chipped furniture and a generally worn appearance that doesn’t reflect what you’d expect from the Mercure brand. Our bathroom was functional but the over-bath shower was a particular concern. The bath had very high sides and a curved, slippery base, making it awkward and potentially unsafe to get in and out of, especially for older guests or anyone with mobility issues. Parking was another significant disappointment. The hotel car park is far too small for the number of guests, and we were unable to find a space, meaning we had to use a public car park some distance away. Overall, the location and the staff are the hotel’s biggest strengths. With some serious refurbishment and improved parking provision, this could be a much better place to stay. As it stands, it feels like a hotel that has been left behind while still relying on its prime location.

Although a very lovely room because of its space and light, it was clearly somewhat tired. The age and condition of the bed was less than I'd expect from a Mercure hotel, and also considering the room rate. The fan/air extraction in the bathroom didn't seem to be working at all. The above issues, along with total lack of recognition of my Accor status, is why I have given the items below fairly low ratings

Had a lovely stay there. Only 1 slight complaint that was shower over bath not good for me as im over 70 need a stand alone shower.

Although the hotel is in need of a refurbishment our nine stay was excellent. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean and tidy but what was outstanding was the attitude of the staff. They were always cheerful, helpful and focussed on ensuring we had a great stay.
