"A good stay at Mercure Livingston! Fantastic location right next to the outlet malls. Rooms were spacious with windows that open fully—a real bonus as we stayed comfortable with just a fan and no need for air-con. Breakfast was average, but overall a pleasant experience. Would recommend!"

I am submitting this complaint because I believe we were misled when booking our stay. My wife booked this hotel for a business trip. We don't mind paying for a good hotel because we enjoy staying somewhere comfortable, especially after a long journey. We have a nice home, so when we're away, we expect accommodation of a similar standard. After a six-hour drive from Yorkshire to Livingston, we arrived at the hotel. At first, I genuinely thought we had arrived at the wrong place because it looked nothing like what we expected. I double-checked the booking confirmation and confirmed that we were at the correct Mercure hotel. We checked in and were given our room key. When we entered the room, we found it to be very dated, with a musty smell throughout, and the television did not work. I returned to reception and explained the issues. The receptionist was helpful and moved us to another room. Unfortunately, this room also had a musty smell. Although the television worked in this room, I then noticed that the safety catch on the window was broken. We had been moved into a family room, as this was all that was available. The window was approximately one metre by one metre and could slide open very wide. My main concern was that there was no way to secure or lock it. This presented both a safety issue and a security risk, as it appeared someone could potentially gain access to the room through the window while we were out. By this point, the problems were beginning to add up, so we reviewed our booking again because we still couldn't believe this was the hotel we had intended to book. After checking the listing and discussing it with the receptionist, it became clear that the photographs shown when we booked were of the Mercure hotel in Brighton, not the Mercure in Livingston. We believe this was misleading. Had the listing shown accurate photographs of the Livingston hotel, we would not have booked it, as it does not reflect the standard or appearance that influenced our decision to make the reservation. For these reasons, I feel the accommodation was misrepresented, and I would like this complaint to be investigated. I would also appreciate an appropriate resolution in light of the misleading listing and the issues we experienced during our stay.

The staff were excellent and very helpful. Hotel in general was dated but clean. Terrible wifi which made it difficult to work on line, although the staff would be helpful and reset router if it was to bad.
