disabled room not available

I request a disabled access room near to reception, which I have always received. However, this time I was not advised the disabled room was not available. On arrival I was given a room with 3 single beds, as far away from reception as you could get - it just had a standard bath which I am not able to climb over to get in, so could not have a shower for the 2 nights stay. I do feel I should have been advised beforehand.

Visited with 12 friends. Clean beds, great staff apart from the really big surly guy that strolls about scowling at everyone. He needs to be kept away from visitors. Every room we had was tired, scuffed, things not working, threadbare, dirty carpets and room upholstery. Mercury MUST KNOW that even as a budget hotel - and it certainly wasn’t by what we all paid! - this place needs closing down for a full refurbishment. It’s pretty horrible…apart from the great staff.

The hotel is currently in the process of being refreshed, however, due to us being very busy, it is taking longer than initially expected. We hope to have the work completed by the end of March 2023. We arrived very late and set off early in the morning so our time here was limited (I'd rather have driven the four hours with an early night and an early start, but no, we had to stay in a hotel). Nothing to fault, although I couldn't see if there was a gym. Looks like it caters specially for old people on bus tours visiting York, Old people in general and race goers. Nothing up with any of those groups, just saying. Breakfast was OK. Not as good as the other Mecure hotels I've stayed at, but better than a lot I've had staying in hotels recently. Clean all over, big soft, comfy beds. Nice bathroom. It's out of the city, but then you don't pay a fortune for it. Next time we have to stay in York, we'll give this a look.
