John D TripAdvisor review

Shoe box room, paper thin walls and the noise of Ingram Street made this an experience that I won't be repeating. The guy on reception was bemused when I suggested to him that arranging a fire alarm test at 11am on Tuesday 11th November was a tad insensitive.

Pretty damned terrible - went through three different rooms, and every one of them had a major problem.

Milbrook94 TripAdvisor review

This was possibly one of the worst hotel stays I've had. The room I was originally allocated had no heating - and despite the efforts of myself and staff, the heating couldn't be started. (This was Glasgow in Autumn - where the evening temperature was 8C). Plus the room was incredibly grubby (the carpets were in a dreadful state with brown and black stains across the floor). I was given a new room - which stank of damp and had black mould on the windowsills. In addition, the sink was blocked. As it was late and tired, I put up with it. In the morning, I complained and was given a third room, which thankfully didn't have mound or damp and which had heating that worked. However, I discovered just before going to bed that there was no hot water to the sink in the room. On checking out, I was asked to pay my bill in full - as the staff on duty didn't have the authority to give a discount or part refund. I was told to make a complaint to the hotel in writing. I did this, but after 48 hours I've heard nothing. Overall - pretty bad, and doesn't deserve a three star rating.

The first room I was given had no heating whatsoever (the ambient temperature was 8°C). I was given a second room which smelt strongly of damp and had black mould around the window plus the sink was blocked. The following day I was given a third room. The heating worked, but there was no hot water for the sink. To cap it all, when I asked if I could have a discount off the bill, I was told that I would have to contact head office. The staff are lovely, the hotel is appalling.

Dear Sanjoy M., Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay at Mercure Glasgow City Hotel. I sincerely apologize for the challenges you experienced with the heating and maintenance issues in your rooms. It is our goal to provide a comfortable environment for all our guests, and I regret that we fell short in this instance. I appreciate your kind words about our staff, as they strive to deliver excellent service. Regarding your request for a discount, it is our policy to address such matters through our head office, and I understand how this may have been frustrating. Thank you once again for your insights, which are invaluable in helping us improve. Rohan Jain Duty Manager Mercure Glasgow Team
