I stayed with my three children and from the minute we arrived till we left, all the staff were fantastic, very welcoming! The kids loved the sea views and we’re so excited to be staying in such a nice hotel with bags of character. Our table wasn’t quite ready for breakfast but I was brought a coffee and the kids some juice while we waited a couple minutes. Breakfast was delicious and a great selection of continental and cooked food, was yummy. Definitely recommend and will be back 🙌

We were very pleased with our stay during August. The hotel was in an ideal location and good or getting around the town. The rooms were very clean and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a great breakfast both mornings with fabulous sea front view. Enjoyed out stay and would use and recommend it too.

As platinium member, and choosing to trust All Accor properties after 60 night in a row staying in All Accor in different countries, ending with this service and standard... but still believing they do a good job? At this rate? I know for sure where NOT to stay next time in Brighton.

We stay in a mix of three star to five star hotels when we go away depending on occasion/type of holiday we are having. Typically, in a city, it will be a solid four star as we tend not to spend a great deal of time in the hotel. The Mercure Brighton is NOT a solid four star. I also want to add that I don't tend to write negative reviews and usually, if I do not enjoy the hotel, I try to balance it with it perhaps just isn't my type of place. I can't do that on this occasion. I will start with the positives, the building is beautiful, it's in a lovely position on the seafront and it's a wonderful walk along the front down to the pier. Every member of staff we encountered was really nice, especially the lady in charge of breakfast, who is a true gem. We found the bed to be super comfy, the linen was good quality, there was always plenty of hot water and the Nespresso machine was an added bonus. Also, additional supplies were always gracefully provided by reception if required. Now the not so positive: We stayed in a Mews Privilege room and the whole of this area is in dire need of attention. The corridors are a disgrace, damaged walls, scuff marks everywhere and a carpet that does not belong anywhere! The rooms have not been totally refurbished as the bathroom has had a new shower cubicle and floor however, the shower head and sink/toilet are old, as are the doors in the room and unfortunately, the nice pale grey carpets are becoming stained. They have balconies or terraces and people smoke out there, not a problem, but they are not cleaned or maintained meaning cigarette buts and weeds everywhere. Please note, there is also no lift service to this area. Also, there is no outdoor seating area at The Mercure to enjoy a drink and the view, one of the only four star hotels on the seafront where we noticed this. The breakfast ranges from just okay to very good. The one we had on our last morning was very good, perfectly cooked items (the very best hash browns I have ever had) and a good range of cold produce, but they had run out of marmalade. As I have said, I hate to write a negative review however, I am doing this in the hope Accor will take note and give this beautiful building the justice it deserves. If you have already booked and are reading these reviews, please don't worry, you will have a good time as they say, location, location, location. Accor, acknowledge your social responsibility and invest in this beautiful period building, restore it to its former glory and then put your prices up, people will pay, they do for The Grand, which was fully booked for our dates. In 2016, I stayed at The Lansdowne in Eastbourne (on business, so not my personal choice). It was very dated however, not scruffy and when I left I loved it, so much so, we visited on this trip and had a wonderful afternoon tea in one of its beautifully re-furbished lounges. It appears that for the last three years or so, there is an ongoing period of refurbishment. It stands heads above the Mercure Brighton and it's a three star. If I could give two and a half points I would however, there are too may issues to warrant three points. Accor, please take note. Thanks to all the staff who looked after us.
