I was expecting a wonderful stay after the re-Ferb unfortunately that wasn’t the case I booked a privileged room which I expected to be exactly as described unfortunately this was not the case the room was cold which is not what you want on a blustery Saturday afternoon on the south coast unfortunately the bathroom have no heating at all I have never in all of my days even if I stayed in a budget hotel come across one with no heated towel rail I cannot fault the staff and the food was exceptional such a shame that the rest of the stay was so poor in the description of the room it included dressing gowns and slippers we had none of those the only form of luxury was expressed in a Nespresso machine as much as I’m sure it’s very nice to have I would’ve much rather had a room that was warm fluffy dressing gowns and the option of being able to dry myself on a warm towel very poor

The revamped hotel is fab, really on-trend! All staff we encountered, lovely! Room (seaview) great with THE most comfortable bed! Had a great one night stay! Wish it had been a week!

Booked via Secret escapes, wasn't as described, we had a normal room instead of the privileged in the Secret escape add, this advised us we would have slipers and dressing gowns however this also wasn't the case. It also advised that room had been recently refurbished, not sure this is the case, holes in the wall by Airton unit which makes noises even when off, towel rail fell off the wall when hanging towel on it. Slightly disappointed by this. Staff were very nice. Breakfast was good.

Location was perfect right on the beach and a short walk into the centre of everything. Staff were lovely and helpful. Room huge (410) with comfy bed and nice bathroom. Hotel is a little tired, with in our room chipped furniture and paint peeling on the doorframe. The windows were old and draughty, and the shower screen had black along the bottom and cobwebs on the pictures and light fitting. However, overall very clean in areas that mattered in the current climate.

Everything was good apart from the fact that I had to pay £75 for 3 days parking and was charged a £30 fee for being 2 hours late checking out, even though no one knocked on our door or called us. We were also disturbed twice because of the fake fire alarm when everyone was evacuated.

We got upgraded to a sea view room which was so lovely and kind of the hotel. As our stay was from Monday-Tuesday it was not too busy so parking at the front of the hotel was easy, however I cannot comment on how this would have been if we needed to park round the back which looked very tight. The hotel was very clean, friendly staff, room was spacious. The decor and feel of the hotel was lovely and cosy and we really enjoyed our stay.

Very helpful member of staff at reception the room was ready so we managed to check in early and secured very reasonable parking . The room was bright clean and modern. Buffet style breakfast with the usual cereals fruit yoghurt or cooked. We will definitely return.

Rude barman and night staff

We came to stay with you with our 3 month old daughter. On Saturday we came back to the bar had to carry the pushchair up the stairs and go through the side door to get in which no one helped us through. 10 minutes later a barman appeared and took our drinks order, the cocktail he made for my husband was awful tasting so my husband complained and asked for another. The barman didn’t take this very well and started being very rude. My husband went up to get another drink and the barman James said he thought he’d had too much to drink and that he should have water, he then made snide remarks about his accent and mocking the way he spoke, we found this very rude and uncalled for. The barman then lied and said he thought my husband was drunk when we came in, the barman didn’t even see us when we came in because we had to come through the side door with the pram and if he did see us and thought he was that drunk why didn’t he help him. We then complained to the manager who didn’t assist us at all and again left my husband to carry a pram with a baby in up 4 flights of stairs because your hotel has 0 facilities for prams. Again if the barman was so bothered he was drunk why did no one assist me with the pram with my baby in. I found your whole night staff team rude and ignorant and the barman James was particularly arrogant and not friendly at all. Another reason for the low rating is the poor standards of the room. There were snapped blinds left by the window. Black marks on the bathroom, threads hanging off the beds and it was just overall quite shabby. The positives were the reception area and the team who welcomed us when we arrived they were polite and very welcoming.

We had a nice time visiting Brighton for the first time! The location was fantastic and the service was lovely, however there was no cleaning service available for our 2 night stay so we didn't get fresh towels etc. Our room key took 5 times to work though and there was no lift so we had to walk up and down numerous times to get it sorted.

This was our second stay at the Brighton Mercure as we love the location and the funky decor. We had a higher grade of room this time with a coffee machine and Seaview balcony.

The hotel is well located in the sea front and not fare from the train station, the lobby bar and restaurant are very nicely decorated. The personnel was very polite and ready to help. I was upgraded to a room with an ocean view. I couldn't really enjoy it since it was rainy, foggy and dark (Late arrival and early departure in december) but I appreciated the attention. The room itself was spacious and well equipped. the paint was peeling on some places of the ceiling but otherwise it was very nice.

This hotel has been a regular choice for me. This stay though will be my last. There is a new regime introduced at Jupiter owned hotels this week which seems to think it's OK to secretly add a 10% service charge to all bills. The new front of house manager here is also not upto standard with an arrogant attitude. Sorry to be negative, but this is one off my list.

Dear Spoonwother Thank you for your review and I'm terribly sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay. We have recently had our tills upgraded and I'm sorry for any inconvenience cause. The 10% service in the bar has just been brought to my attention yesterday that the bar drink somehow had a 10% service charge levied. Until I get this resolved I've asked the team to remove this from any bills presented. For the restaurant the 10% service charge has always been on the bill which of course you can ask for it to be removed. I am sorry if you were inconvenienced during your stay. On check in we ask all our guests if they would like to apply credit to their room making an authorization to open up their account on the room. I am sorry if you feel this is unacceptable and of course we would be delighted to look after you again should you wish to visit Brighton. With kind regards Catherine
